Highscreen Black Box Radar-HD firmware update. Firmware update Highscreen Black Box Radar-HD Highscreen black box connect firmware unofficial

If earlier DVRs grew year by year, increasing in linear dimensions, screen diagonal and matrix resolution, now the opposite trends have clearly emerged - each subsequent model is smaller than the previous one. Compactness and elegance are the trend of the season. But more and more devices began to appear with unexpected and seemingly unusual functionality for a recorder - radar detectors, GPS modules and even navigators began to be connected to them. But to the new device from Highscreen - the Black Box recorder - they added WiFi and it became Black Box Connect.

The device itself is square, small and cute:

In the center is the lens, trying to look larger than it is, at the bottom is the recording button, on the side are the power and WiFi buttons:

On the other end there is a connector for a memory card and USB, also known as a power connector:

The gadget is powered via USB, from a car charger into the cigarette lighter, which has a second connector for charging a smartphone. This is good, because we will need a smartphone.

The device is attached to the suction cup by snapping onto the guide:

It holds well, without play, and can be removed with noticeable, but not excessive, force. The set includes three guides:

One is screwed to the suction cup, the other with a ring - hooked onto a cord:

And the third - with a magnet:

This allows you to attach the device to the refrigerator door and finally find out who is eating it at night, not sparing your health!

On the back there is an indication of four mode lights - and no screen. Somehow this is, you know, unusual. How to adjust the shooting angle? How can you show the traffic cop that he is wrong and that you did not do what you are now ashamed of? But that’s what Wi-Fi is for, yeah.

The practical use of this device certainly requires that you have a smartphone. I have a tribesman on the test here Highscreen Alpha R (read it the other day) - but even the latest iPhone will do. In a friendly Google Play or an enemy app store there is a free program called Unieye, which can connect to this recorder via WiFi. Detects it as a separate network:

And, having connected, you suddenly find on the screen an image of yourself, looking at yourself, looking at yourself:

Apotheosis of self-contemplation.

Actually, everything is configured through this program; no screen on the device is needed:

You can password-protect the network so that no one spies on your camera - it’s your personal business who opens the refrigerator at night and why! Maybe there are uh... important secret documents! Hidden in the sausage.

In general, the program allows you to receive signals from four cameras, so you can buy several Highscreen Black Box Connect devices at once and arrange a 360-degree view from your car or something like a video security system for your apartment. Moreover, if via WiFi you can admire this splendor from 20-30 meters in an apartment and a house 50 meters away in an open area, then via the Internet - from anywhere. To do this, the device can broadcast a video stream to the Ustream cloud video service:

Create an account right in the setup program, connect the service, and...

You dance a little with a tambourine. And a little more. And one more thing... But then everything finally gets better:

Now you can indulge in narcissism via the Internet, make faces at yourself and put horns to your head. True, the delay in the picture is about 10-15 seconds, so this activity looks slightly schizophrenic.

I immediately came up with a possible use for this system - to hang a camera outside the window in the country and, sitting in the city, watch apples fall from the trees there. However, although I have Wi-Fi there, it’s via 3G, and a constantly working video camera will gobble up all mobile traffic. But technically it is quite feasible, why not. At the same time, you can power the device from any smartphone power supply with a microUSB outlet - the internal battery (700 mAh) with Wi-Fi turned on lasts only about an hour.

However, let's not forget that the Highscreen Black Box Connect device is primarily positioned as a car DVR, and let's see what it represents in this capacity.

The technical data of the camera is not impressive - one megapixel, CMOS sensor with a quarter-inch diagonal. This lone megapixel gives an HD shooting resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels - which is no longer mainstream these days. The fact is that broadcasting over Wi-Fi imposes inevitable technical limitations - in order to transmit a Full-HD video stream, completely different solutions are needed. This is partly compensated by enough powerful processor Ambarella 7th generation. The picture is of average quality, the numbers on the original recording begin to be legible from approximately this distance:

The day's video can be viewed on YouTube (taking into account the fact that YouTube always squeezes and blurs videos):

It’s easy to see that the shooting quality is sufficient – but nothing more.

In general, few DVRs cope well with night shooting - after all, within the price ranges that are decent for these devices, the problem of truly high-quality night shooting cannot be solved in any way. But Highscreen Black Box Connect here, perhaps, performed weaker than other models from the same manufacturer:

I've seen better footage.

Among the minuses, I can also note the absence of a hard mute button (only through the menu, accessible only through a smartphone) - I always mute the sound on DVRs, because who knows what I might say unexpectedly in an accident? It will be somehow inconvenient later... But sometimes it is necessary to turn it on.

It is impossible to adjust the duration of the video when recording cyclically - only three minutes. Well, the very concept of working only through a smartphone, although original and delights me as a tester, is rather inconvenient for practical everyday use. If you remove the dash cam in a parking lot, you will inevitably change its position. This means that every time you install it, you need to take out your smartphone, launch the application, wait until it starts and establishes a connection, adjust the picture, then turn off and switch the device to DVR mode... Isn’t that a lot of hassle? So it is better to use it for those who never remove the device from the glass - for example, they store their car in a guarded parking lot.

In addition, do not forget that one of the important uses of a DVR in our realities is to show the picture to the traffic cop on the spot to prove the absence of a violation. ( This saved me a couple of times from extortion attempts “for oncoming traffic.”). Manipulations with a smartphone can be perceived very negatively, and the reliability of this connection is obviously less than that of a simple device with a screen - it would be stupid to lose your rights because the Wi-Fi on your smartphone has fallen off...

Conclusions:

Highscreen Black Box Connect is a very interesting and progressive device, testing it gave me great pleasure. However, you need to understand that this is more of a gadget for geeks than a device for the mass consumer. The “plug and play” pattern does not work here - you need to understand what WiFi is, how to install an application on a smartphone, tinker with the settings, knock on a tambourine and read the manual... Most likely, this device can be classified as a concept that is created to try different trends consumer market. If you just need a DVR, Highscreen also has one that only needs a power connection to operate. But if you like to be slightly ahead of the market, love multifaceted and universal devices, and are not a stranger to joy manual settings anything and everything - then this gadget will suit you perfectly. Not so much as a DVR, but as an interesting toy. Moreover, its price is quite affordable - less than five thousand rubles.

The procedure for correcting the error of incorrect recording of the current time.

Based on the results of testing Highscreen Black Box Radar-HD devices in field conditions, it was found that some of them save video recordings, the time in which does not correspond to the current time of the trip. According to the developers, they also discovered a similar error on some devices after the product had already been shipped to us. They suggest the following procedure to fix the error:

  • Copy the binary firmware file (SQ680_FW5.5c_DTL_HighScreen_4key_AP_OV9712_.BIN) presented in the application to a folder on your computer.
  • Remove the memory card from the device and connect it to the computer.
  • Launch the player (file HighPlayer.exe), located on the card.
  • Click on the “Settings” button on the player’s control panel.
  • In the menu that opens, select “Download firmware.” The program will ask you to confirm the selected action. Click on the "Yes" button.

  • In the list of folders and files that opens, select the file that you copied initially and click on the “Open” button. The file will be copied to the card.

  • Remove the card from the card reader and insert it into the device.
  • Next you will need to connect the car power cable to the device. If you do not have a network converter (220V/12V), the firmware update can be performed inside the car. As a last resort, you can use the included USB/mini-USB cable. When using this cable to update the firmware, it should be connected to the mini-USB connector (“USB UPGRASDE”) located on the bottom panel of the device.
  • Insert the power cable into the socket of the on-board or network adapter with a voltage of 12V or connect the USB cable. Press and hold the "MODE" button on the device. Insert the cable plug into the device's power connector (“DC12-24V”). A splash screen will appear on the LCD screen of the device and the words “FW UPDATING...” will light up.

  • Once the update is complete, the following message will appear on the screen:

"FW UPDATE OK." PRESS ANY KEY TO RESTART” - the update is completed, press any button on the device to restart.

After updating the firmware, the problem with incorrect time recording should disappear.
