The Gear S3 Frontier uses a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display covered with Corning Gorilla Glass SR+ protective glass. The solution is so simple and convenient that it’s even surprising that other smartwatch manufacturers haven’t come to it yet. The ring around the Gear S3 Frontier's screen scrolls to the right or left, allowing you to scroll through screens, lists, or icons in the interface.

In addition, on the right side of the watch case there are two mechanical buttons, one is responsible for taking a step back, and the second is for exiting to the main screen, calling the main menu, as well as turning the device on and off. You can also control the watch via the touch display, but in many cases the navigation ring is simply more comfortable to use.

The Gear S3 Frontier's interface is built around a circular screen, so its elements are arranged to make the most of usable space. Understanding the interface logic is not difficult. Compared to the Gear S2, not only the design, but also the platform of the new watch has been noticeably updated. They use a 1 GHz Exynos 7270 processor, 768 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory. The increase in performance is noticeable even with cursory use of the watch; scrolling through menus, changing watch faces, launching applications, everything happens without lags or freezes.

Working with notifications in the Gear S3 Frontier is implemented at the same level as in the Gear S2; in the Gear program, you can configure which messages, updates and other information from applications you want to broadcast to the watch.

At the same time, with the Gear S3 Frontier, in some cases, you can not only read the contents of notifications, but also respond to some of them. This can be done with a pre-prepared phrase, voice, emoticon, or by typing text on the virtual keyboard.

The Gear S3 Frontier's suite of pre-installed apps includes calendar, reminders, alarms, weather, notebook, mail, messages, gallery, world time, baro-altimeter, S Voice, S Health, music player and telephone. The Samsung Apps store now includes Privat24, Portmone, Uklon, Tickets.ua, WOG, Nova Poshta, Eda.ua and others. In addition, you can install the Uber application for calling a taxi, as well as Yandex.Traffic and Yandex.Transport. However, the Samsung Apps store mainly offers watch faces, and Google has not yet decided to come to Tizen. In order to better understand the altitude to which the user rises, the Gear S3 Frontier has an altimeter that works on the basis of a barometer (determines the difference in pressure at different altitudes), which in turn also measures atmospheric pressure and tries to predict whether it will rain or not.

The altimeter takes sea level data from the AccuWeather service database, depending on the user’s location, which is determined via GPS.

The Gear S3 Frontier case is protected from water and dust according to the IP68 standard, which, unfortunately, does not allow the watch to be used for water sports. It is recommended to immerse them in water to a depth of no more than 1 meter and for up to 30 minutes.

Autonomy

The built-in battery in the Gear S3 Frontier has a capacity of 380 mAh. The operating time of the watch depends very much on how actively you use it. If the user watches the time, checks notifications and works with applications, then you can count on 3 days of battery life.

If you add sports activities to this, for example, running for 40 minutes with active GPS, then you will need to recharge the watch after 2 days.

Appearance

As for the design, at the presentation we noted the skillfully made case in the style of premium versions of the classics. The set includes a 22 mm leather strap, which can be replaced if desired. The watch case itself is made of 316L stainless steel and is protected according to the IP68 standard. It is more massive than the second generation.

At one end there are two buttons for navigating the menu. There is a microphone hole under them. On the opposite end there are three speaker holes. Thus, you can use the watch as a hands-free headset.

Very convenient while driving - and absolutely inappropriate when used on the street. Imagine a more or less familiar picture when a passerby speaks in front of him or shouts at his wrist. Now add to that the clock screaming back at him.

The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass SR+, specially released for wearable devices. The display is round in shape, with excellent color reproduction and contrast, inherent only in Super AMOLED technology. Mechanical dials look quite natural. Only the absence of shadows when the lighting changes will reveal their artificiality.

The peculiarity of its operation is that in order to obtain data on the current atmospheric pressure, the sensor needs calibration. And for this we need current information about the pressure at a known altitude at a given geographical point. In theory, this information could be provided by a weather service. But conventional services do not update this information often enough and do not do it geographically accurately.

How long do they live?

A very important question in view of the number of sensors this watch is packed with.

The increased size of the case played into the hands in this regard. It accommodates a larger 380 mAh battery. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half to fully charge from the wireless docking station.

If you don’t receive all notifications in a row, reduce the brightness of the backlight, measure your pulse once or twice a day and check what time it is a dozen times, then the full battery charge will last for five days work.

Gear S3 looks even nicer and more organic. Especially the Frontier model. The ability to change straps, the variety of dials and the always-on display only encourage the creation of an individual image.

As soon as this gear s3 frontier watch went on sale (December 2016), I was immediately excited about the purchase, I liked the design, the ability to change dials, view notifications and calls without taking the phone out of my pocket. You can see the possibilities in numerous reviews; I will tell you about personal impressions and shortcomings of my gear s3. The battery charge lasts for a day when the display is on and about 100 notifications and calls per day. When turned off, about 2-3 days, provided you do not talk by the hour. Convenient feature voice control when there is an incoming call: you see that someone is calling you and say “answer” or “reject” and the action is performed; in the “answer” scenario, the watch puts the caller on speakerphone. When a bluetooth headset is connected, you can switch to talking using the watch or headset. Voice assistant does not recognize speech well, sometimes you have to yell at him to wake up, and when asked to call someone, he does not understand what they want from him. When the increased sensitivity of the screen is turned on, it can be used with gloves - cloth, leather, ski gloves. I was particularly pleased with the ability to download music from the phone to the watch. While jogging, you can leave your phone at home and listen to music from your watch through Bluetooth headphones, and also turn on Samsung health and GPS, then your ears will also receive the necessary information about the workout (pace, mileage, etc.), however, the pulse measurement is crooked. At the same time, the battery charge is reduced by approximately 50% per hour of such training. Yes, and in different versions of the firmware the watch behaved differently, the screen was constantly on, showing training data, then it went out and you had to shake your hand to see the indicators. By the way, the motion sensor does not always work correctly when you lift the watch, and you have to raise your hand several times for the screen to light up. After half a year of use, I discovered that the battery charge was “melting before our eyes” - it began to discharge literally in 6-8 hours. I took it to service under warranty, the watch was sent to service in Moscow, 2 weeks later it was returned - the problem remained. The report said that the software was changed and no problems were found. In his service center, right in front of the employees, he demonstrated that there was a problem, then they suggested calling the Samsung hotline (in general, the people at Samsung service centers are either mediocrities or lazy people, in a word, until you get into trouble, they won’t do anything normally ). On the Samsung hotline, I explained to the operator the problem with the loss of charge, and said that the employees of the service center in my city could confirm this fact. Then the operator recommended once again sending the watch to service in Moscow. After another 2 weeks, the technician from the service center called me and confirmed that there was still a problem and said that he had completely changed the board, and now the battery works as it should. In addition to all this, I swam in the pool, in the river, under the shower - the water does not get inside, it only pours into the speaker and microphone, causing the sounds to be distorted until it dries. Also, when immersed in water or under the shower, the Bluetooth connection with the phone is lost. The watch case turned out to be strong! While snowboarding in the snows of Elbrus and the forests of Cheget, I repeatedly touched trees or other hard objects for hours - the glass turned out to be durable, only the bezel received scratches. Over time (after about 1.5 years) I discovered that here and there on the metal rim (between the glass and the bezel) the black paint was coming off - not critical. By the way, later, in order to avoid a “tragedy”, I pasted protective glass with Ali. Software that is updated periodically eliminates some glitches, but makes others worse. So at one time the watch began to simply freeze - the screen did not turn on, the buttons and bezel did not respond, I had to reboot by holding down the menu button for 10 seconds.

In 2016, a new generation of smart watches Samsung Gear S3 Frontier was released. This model includes two types of gadgets:

• Frontier;
• Classic.

Classic watches are intended for the general public. They are miniature and light.

Frontier, on the other hand, is famous for its more diverse functionality, external expressiveness and massiveness. Compatible with a wireless headset, which allows you to have a conversation while driving without distractions.

Unlike the S2 model, the new sample has become larger in diameter and has a corrugated edging. You can use the gear wheel to scroll through the page menu and also receive messages. In the near future, fashion designer Arik Levy is going to release a whole line of designer accessories.

The body of the smartwatch is mainly made of 316L steel and has a matte finish. Back cover glass, sensitive sensors are built into it.

Advantages

Unlike other smart watches, Samsung Smart characterized by the following advantages:
