Helium download to your computer in Russian. Carbon Backup is not titanic, but carbon. How to back up your device data with Carbon Backup

A rather interesting version of the application for backing up applications and data on smartphones and tablets, which is offered to us by the company ClockworkMod. “Why is he so interesting?” you ask. And it is interesting because it has good functionality even without Root is right, although for complete happiness it is best to have them, then the program will work at “full power”, although without them everything is enough.

So, this program knows how to create backups data or synchronize data between smartphones. Allows you to save data both to a memory card and to the “cloud” or to a PC through a special client, links to which you will find below.

Helium installation:
1. Install Helium on Android
- Is there a root? You don't have to read any further
2. Install and launch Helium Desktop (link below)
- Windows users must for their device
3. To plug Android device to the computer
4. Helium on Android is activated and ready to go

Possibilities free version Helium:
- Backup and recovery to memory card
- Backup and restore to PC

Features of the Helium premium version:
- No advertising
- Schedule automatic backups
- Synchronization between Android devices
- Backup and restore to the cloud: Dropbox, Box, Google Drive

Note: Helium is not available for Motorola devices, because Motorola broke the standard backup mechanism in Android. Until this is fixed by the company itself, Helium will not work on its devices with official firmware and customs based on them. The situation is similar with some Sony smartphones, in particular Xperia S and Xperia Z. The manufacturer deliberately cut out the necessary functionality from the firmware.

Finding an excellent and reliable Android application for such an important purpose as backup is quite a difficult task. At first glance, the choice is quite extensive, but if we take a closer look at the offered utilities, it turns out that only a few are able to perform their direct functions efficiently and quickly. The very concept of backup (or, in Russian, backup) is copying all the vital data of a device to a new location in order to restore it, if necessary, in the event of destruction or damage.

Some backup applications require root access to work, some are not powerful enough, and some do not stand up to criticism at all. For a long time, the “” program remained the leader in this application segment. But many users agree that it is so inconvenient and confusing that very often this simply discourages any desire to use it. That is why one of the “youngest” backup programs “Carbon” is becoming increasingly popular.

"Carbon - App Sync and Backup" is the brainchild of the famous Kushik Dutta. It was he who at one time developed the legendary recovery console “ClockworkMod”, which everyone who tried to change the firmware on their device encountered. But the main advantage of Carbon, fortunately, is not the famous name of the developer, but how high-quality and convenient the program itself is. Under its generally uncomplicated interface hides a huge amount of functionality. Any user can easily backup to a smartphone memory card, personal computer, another device running Android OS, any online file storage, etc. In this case, you can configure the backup to be carried out according to a specific schedule. And the main thing is that this entire range of tasks does not require root rights, and the processes themselves proceed as quickly and efficiently as possible.

But let’s immediately focus on the negative point - the full functionality of the program is available only in its paid version. But believe me, these 5 dollars are worth spending on such a useful assistant. In the free version, only the option of backup to the device’s memory card and to a computer is available. But here, too, some restrictions can be bypassed and cheated. With a few simple manipulations in the dropsync application, you can achieve absolutely full synchronization with other Android devices, as well as with Dropbox.

Let's get back to ease of use. In order to make a backup you just need to select from the list required applications and click on the “Backup” button. That's it, this completes the backup procedure. We also note that to make a backup on a PC, you must additionally install a server application, versions of which exist for both Windows, Linux and MacOS X.

What is the difference between “Carbon - App Sync and Backup” and the above-mentioned “ Titanium Backup"? The first and most significant difference is that the application does not require root rights. Therefore, "Carbon" is the most best option for those who are just trying their hand at firmware, but are still worried about the safety of their programs and data. Both programs have both paid and free versions. But the functionality of the free “Carbon” is higher than that of its competitor. The paid version of the program, among other things, is completely free of third-party advertising and allows you to make backups automatically at the appointed time.

Another competitor of “Carbon” can be called “”. This utility can work with both rooted and non-rooted devices. But it is worth noting that in their absence, the GoBackup functionality drops significantly, and you will only be able to make backup copies of contacts, application settings and messages. And in the free version, you will also not be able to use the power of cloud systems. If your device is rooted, you can back up the applications directly, and also hide the interfaces of processes while they are running.

To summarize, it becomes obvious that the most optimal backup program in all respects is “Carbon - App Sync and Backup”. Only this utility is as easy to use as possible, has wide functionality and at the same time boasts extreme reliability.

How to save your device data using Carbon Backup?

Most people neglect to back up their data. electronic devices. And this is quite justified, because many data are automatically saved in the Google cloud storage and can be restored at any time. But, if this is not enough for you and you are not sure of the reliability of such storage, then you should use special backup applications. If you have a sufficient level of knowledge, experience and administrator rights, you can use the Titanium Backup application. But if you only have access to the user account on the device and do not have enough knowledge in this area, then you should pay attention to the simpler Carbon Backup application from the creators of ClockWorkMod.

Is it worth rooting?

If you do not feel confident or lack of experience does not allow you to engage in rooting (obtaining absolute rights to control the device), then it is better not to experiment in order to maintain the integrity of the system and the working condition of the device. But if you know the basics, have enough courage and can cope with the possible negative consequences of interfering with the system, then Carbon Backup will be an ideal assistant in this matter.

By backing up your phone's system, you can try many alternative firmwares, such as CyanogenMod or Paranoid Android, and judge their pros and cons for yourself. In addition, Carbon Backup benefits all users of the device because it does not require administrator rights to install. And if you have a root account, the list of possibilities expands and allows you to use features such as copying Wi-Fi profiles.

If you do not have administrator rights, then you will need a desktop agent with operating system support. Windows systems, Mac, and Linux, which you can download from http://www.clockworkmod.com/carbon. To run the Carbon Backup application, you must launch the agent from your desktop and connect your device via USB port. As soon as the green checkmark on the agent shortcut lights up, the application is ready to work and you can disconnect the USB cable.

Premium Carbon Backup

Please note that most of the features described in this guide will only be unlocked if you have the Premium version of Carbon Backup. These features include the ability to synchronize with another device, schedule backups, and support for cloud storage. Therefore, we recommend that all users immediately purchase the Premium version, despite the fact that it is paid.

Backup

Carbon Backup has two tabs "Backup" and "Restore and sync". In each tab you will find a list of applications installed on your device, with the ability to select which ones will be saved. Starting from version Carbon Backup 1.1.0.0, the application allows you to make a copy of installed settings, SMS message storage, user dictionary and Wi-FI profiles (if you have administrator rights). Carbon Backup also has a control panel in the form of a darkened area at the bottom of the screen. To open the menu, you need to pull up this panel. Among other options, the "Select All" and "Deselect all" functions will open, making it much easier for those who do not plan to make selective changes to the system. It's also worth paying attention to the additional section at the end of the list of applications. Data in this partition cannot be deleted, even if you have administrator rights.

Carbon Backup stores copies of apps in APK format, so you don't have to go back to the Play Store to reinstall them. However, such files take up too much space. Therefore, Carbon Backup has the ability to create a different type of copy "App Data Only", which allows you to save only individual settings each application without copying the program itself. Such copies are much more mobile and compact.

After you have chosen required applications, you need to start the backup by clicking the "Backup" button.

Where and how to save backups?

Even before the backup begins, the application will give you a choice of several file storage locations. You can save the backup to internal memory device or in an external cloud storage such as Dropbox, HoldBit, Google Drive, or Box (if you have the Premium version of Carbon Backup). It is also possible to schedule a backup of your system. To do this, just select a schedule and storage locations, and the application will do everything itself in a timely manner.

In addition to choosing a day of the week and a specific time, you can choose to create a backup only if the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network or while charging at the right time. Adjustable schedule settings have their own separate icon located to the right of the “Backup” icon preview, which allows you to edit the storage location of the backup files.

Also note that the clock icon located on top panel Carbon Backup tools allow you to view a timeline of events that you have already scheduled. To remove something from this list, simply press and hold the line with the event you want to cancel.

When you start a backup, an Android system message appears on the screen, allowing you to set a password to encrypt the copied data. But you will have to act quickly as this alert only appears for a few seconds. In addition, further recovery of the password if lost will be impossible, so select it in advance.

Recovery

When you switch to the "Restore and Sync" tab, you will have access to a list of all possible cloud storage locations where you already have data and where copies are stored on the internal memory of the device itself. In addition, you will be able to see other Carbon Backup clients running through your Wi-Fi network. It is worth noting that the Carbon Backup application has recently implemented support for saving data from multiple devices into one storage cloud. All these devices are displayed in the form of a drop-down list located at the top of the screen after the icon for selecting where to save data. The list will display the name of the device you are using on this moment and the location of your shared data storage. Note that when using Dropbox storage, you will find backup files created by the Carbon Backup application at Dropbox\Apps\ClockworkMod Carbon or in the Dropbox and Google Drive folders at com.koushikdutta.backup. Unfortunately, we do not have an account in Box storage, so we cannot say the address for storing data on this resource.

Selecting files to restore is identical to selecting backup items. You can select some files, select the entire list, or deselect all data. Next, simply click the "Restore" button and Carbon Backup will begin restoring your backup data. This will cause the Android system message to appear again, allowing you to enter a password if you set one when you created the backup.

Backup and restore from PC

Carbon Backup comes with a web interface that allows you to view your installed applications or your device's settings through a browser. To connect this interface, you must press the menu button “…” and select “PC Download” from the list. After this, the application will display the IP address, which must be entered into the browser open on your personal computer to view the Carbon Backup web interface. You can also quickly enable or disable the server using the large control button on the device screen.

The web interface allows you to select all or several installed applications, including system settings and Wi-Fi. After selecting the data you need, you need to click the blue "Start Backup" button in the browser and the archive file will be transferred from the device to the PC via home network. Please note that if you want to password protect your backups, then, as in all previous cases, you will need to enter the password on the device itself when starting the copy. You will not be able to enter the password from your computer desktop.

Recovering data from a PC works in a similar way. You will also need to specify the location where the backups were saved and drag the data onto the application web page in the browser or select the desired file using the navigator. After this, the data will be copied to your device. If the backup was password protected, you will need to enter it from the device when the corresponding Android system message appears. Let us remind you that the message disappears quite quickly, so the password must be entered immediately without delay.

Transferring files from your PC to your device may take some time, even if you only saved application settings. The volume of data can occupy hundreds of megabytes, and with a full backup it can reach several gigabytes. Therefore, if you have made a full backup, it is better to choose the evening or night time to start data recovery, so as not to waste time waiting for the process to complete. Once the recovery is complete, the server will automatically shut down.

Sync apps between Android devices

In addition to the ability to view applications installed on the device through the browser personal computer Carbon Backup can list the apps of other devices connected via Wi-Fi. To do this, in the "Restore and Sync" tab, select "Refresh Device List". After this, the application will begin checking devices using Carbon Backup in your local network. After creating the list, you will be able to view applications installed on all found devices. In addition, you can use the recovery function to write the found application to your device.

In order to copy an application, you need to drag its icon, and not just click the desired line. This method is very attractive from a security point of view, because in this case there is no possibility of accidental copying of data.

The synchronization feature can be useful if, for example, you play a game on multiple devices. You can save your game achievements and copy them to another device yourself, thereby continuing the game from the place where you last saved. In addition, using synchronization, you can copy useful applications without visiting the Play Store store. We have not tested the interaction of devices with different accounts Google posts, but, most likely, in such a case, copying data will be complicated by DRM restrictions in order to protect copyrights. This issue will be especially acute when trying to copy paid applications to a device with another account.

Helium is a program that is designed to backup installed portable device applications. As you know there are software solutions, intended for synchronization phone book, calendar, notes, messages and other data. So, this application works on their principle, but differs in that it is intended for “backup” installed games and programs. This program is intended for those who are going to “move” to a new device, but do not want to “manually” transfer all the applications installed on it. Helium will be especially useful for those users who install third party applications, not presented in the digital store Google Play.

One of the key advantages of the program is that it does not require Root rights from the user. Little of, this utility makes it possible to independently select applications that need to be “backed up”, can work with a memory card, can synchronize via USB and miniUSB cables, and also does not require connection to a computer. Helium's interface is quite nice and intuitive. The program itself is distributed in both paid and free versions.

To get started with Helium you will not only have to install the application on mobile device, but also the desktop version of the program on a PC. You also need to find in this list the drivers corresponding to your smartphone model and install them on your computer. Only after completing these operations will you be ready to start using the application.

Connect your smartphone to your computer via USB. Launch the application and follow Helium's simple and clear instructions. The program will first direct you to Settings to launch the mode USB Debugging. You don’t have to delve into the menu yourself - Helium will immediately open the desired directory, all you have to do is select the desired item in the list. Next, the same procedure will be done to transfer the connected device to Camera mode (PTP).

Next, Helium will search for the desktop application on your computer. Since we have already installed it, and also did not forget about the drivers for the smartphone, this step will be short, and you will immediately see the following window: the application will report that the backup has been successfully enabled (backup, as I understand it) and the ability to disconnect the gadget from the PC. Now you can work with the program essentially, no longer needing to connect to a computer.

This is where the technical formalities end. Next, you create backup copies of application information, saving them either on a memory card or in a cloud storage of your choice. Helium will also allow you to synchronize several of your devices, even if they are on different networks - your Google account will be used here. The second tab of the main application window is Restoring data from backups. Helium will detect all archives of this type and restore them. But be sure that you remember the password with which these archives were locked when they were created (if, of course, you locked them at all).

Well, for those who are constantly worried about the security of vital data in applications, Helium has acquired such a function as scheduled reservation: your smartphone in set time will create backup copies of data. Regular saving of such archives guarantees that in case of an unforeseen situation, you will return to the most up-to-date information and settings. Happy backup!
