The phone works without interruptions, on a well-known operating system Android. Thanks to its good functional qualities, this device will become a reliable assistant at work and during rest.

Appearance

First of all, I would like to note the interesting design, which is of great importance for those who care about their style. The gadget is lightweight (weight 208 grams) and elegant. The S-Tel M556 phone is produced in different colors, which will allow both men and women to become its owner.

Cameras and screen

Another great advantage is high-quality shooting thanks to a good 13 megapixel camera and a 5 megapixel front camera. The large 5.5-inch screen will allow you to watch high-quality videos and play your favorite games.

Special advantages

The main advantage of this gadget is its highly functional performance and budget cost.

  1. The phone is available to everyone due to its low cost.
  2. The device has a sufficient amount of memory of 8 megabytes, which can be expanded using a memory card.
  3. It stands out clearly among other mobile phones and attracts a wide variety of buyers.
  4. Happy owners will be able to use the smartphone for quite a long time thanks to a stable battery and a battery capacity of 2800 mAh.

conclusions

The S-Tell M556 has its minor drawbacks, but overall it is a worthy competitor among mobile devices, especially for such a price. Great amount good reviews, indicates that the mobile phone is excellent to use. The kit includes a one-year warranty card, a case, Charger from USB.

The dvuhsimnik immediately attracts attention with its stylish design, which is dominated by metal and glass. At the same time, during testing we were convinced that it has something to offer the user besides its pleasant appearance: 5.5-inch IPS screen, 5MP front camera and 13 megapixel main, both with flash. All details are further in the review.

Contents of delivery

Only the S-TELL M556 package deserves flattering words. The two included cases for the handset, costing only $77, are not just a nice bonus, but a luxury. One accessory is in the form of a book, and the second is a silicone pad. What is important is that both do not hide all the charms of the S-TELL M556 design, but more on that later.

Now I note that in addition to the cases and the smartphone itself, the box made of thick blue cardboard also contained a place for a power adapter, a microUSB-USB cable and a user manual.

Design and functional elements

The appearance of the S-TELL M556 contains a lot of metal, which is very fashionable now. In addition, the material has a polished texture, due to which it looks even more fashionable and stylish, both in gray and golden colors.

Of course, there are also small plastic inserts at the top and bottom of the rear panel - the antennas of the radio modules are hidden under them.

The “sides” of the smartphone are also made of plastic. The color of all elements is chosen so skillfully, and the assembly is so good that it may seem that the S-TELL M556 body is solid. In fact, the design is collapsible. The back panel along with the ends can be removed simply by prying a fingernail onto a special ledge.

Under the cover there is a removable battery and three separate slots - for two microSIM cards and a card microSD memory. To install or replace them, it is necessary to remove the battery.

The rear panel of the smartphone has cutouts for a 13MP camera lens, an LED flash and a multimedia speaker.

A 3.5 mm audio output and microUSB port are located on the top end of the S-TELL M556, and a microphone output is on the bottom. Among others functional elements I’ll note the power button and volume key located on the right side. They are large, well spaced, have a clear response and are easy to press.

On the front of the gadget at the top there is a speech speaker, light and proximity sensors, as well as a 5MP camera lens with an LED flash. Below the 5.5-inch screen are touch control buttons without backlight.

I note that all the materials of the S-TELL M556 case are pleasant to the touch, but holding it with one hand with dimensions of 155x78x9 mm and a weight of 208 grams, like any other 5.5-inch smartphone, is difficult - you have to use two. But with such a display diagonal it is comfortable to watch movies, surf the Internet and read.

Display

The smartphone screen, by the way, is made using IPS technology, has good viewing angles and decent color rendition. In the sun the matrix goes blind, but the picture remains readable.

Considering the 5.5-inch diagonal and HD resolution, there is a pixelation effect here. But the ladder of dots is visible only on fonts, and then only if you hold the device close to your eyes.

The display received an oleophobic coating - your finger glides over it easily, and there were no problems with removing fingerprints. ABOUT protective glass the manufacturer does not mention it, but already “out of the box” offers a model with a protective film.

An attentive user will also notice that the image on the S-TELL M556 display turns into warm yellowish shades. Those who don't like this will be able to adjust this and other screen parameters in MiraVision's custom mode options. In addition, both manual and automatic backlight adjustments are possible.

The touch layer of the display has good sensitivity and recognizes up to 2 simultaneous touches.

Hardware and performance

In contrast to the appearance, which makes the S-TELL M556 expensive, its hardware simply “squeaks” about its budget status. It is represented by 4-core MediaTek processor MTK 6580 clocked at 1.3 GHz and 1 GB RAM

The graphics are handled by the Mali 400MP2 controller. It allows you to comfortably “shoot birds” and “run from a policeman,” but more serious games, like Asphalt 8, for example, can only be played on low graphics settings.

The S-TELL M556 copes well with other standard tasks, including HD video playback. I did not notice any slowdown in the interface.

Battery

Taking into account the very economical hardware, the model’s autonomy indicators are not bad.

One full charge of the removable S-TELL M556 2800 mAh battery at 50% screen backlight brightness was enough for 5 hours of HD video playback online. In the game Subway Surfers, the tube lasted 4 hours. Power saving mode is standard android.

BY

The gadget works under Android control 6.0 Marshmallow with a minimum number of additional pre-installed utilities. From useful programs I note the Docs To Go office suite, FM radio, BSPlayer and Clean Master For Android cleaning from unnecessary files and utilities.

Memory

The volume of built-in flash memory of the S-TELL M556 is small - only 8 GB, but it supports microSD cards. Specification USB-OTG smartphone not supported.

Communication capabilities

Support for two SIM cards is implemented here using the Dual Standby standard, that is, SIM cards simultaneously function only in standby mode.

In addition to the 2G network (GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz), the smartphone supports access to 3G technology (HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz).

Data transfer is carried out using built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules or when connecting the smartphone to a PC via a microUSB cable.

The GPS module is responsible for navigation and geopositioning.

Speakers

The S-TELL M556 speaker has a good volume reserve and transmits speech clearly, without an excess of extraneous noise.

Multimedia provides good sound quality, but suffers from a lack of power.

You can play around with sound using software enhancements such as BesAudEnh, BesLoudness and BesSurround.

Cameras

In terms of photo and video capabilities, the S-TELL M556 is also open to experimentation. Both smartphone cameras have an LED flash, “HDR”, “Beautiful Face”, “Gesture Shot”, “Face Detection”, and “Auto Scene Detection” modes, as well as electronic image stabilization, the ability to adjust ISO, white balance and much more.

I liked daytime selfies with the 5MP front camera outdoors, but nighttime ones or those taken in poor lighting, even despite the presence of an LED flash, suffer from noise and blurriness.

The resolution of the main photo module manufactured by Sony is 13 megapixels. Its additional advantage is fairly accurate and fast autofocus and support for Full HD video recording.

Test video

The camera is good at macro photography and daylight photography. The flash does not illuminate the photos, but gives them a yellowish tint.

conclusions

Well, if you can blame the S-TELL M556 for anything, keeping in mind its price tag of only $77, it’s the low gaming performance and the small amount of built-in memory by modern standards. And you can turn a blind eye to the latter, since support for memory cards is implemented, and without compromising the second SIM card.

Other advantages of the model: screen quality justified by the price tag, excellent build quality, beautiful design and two cases included, which is very rare in the segment of smartphones under $80. Otherwise, this is a typical budget phone with average battery life, relatively good cameras, and clear, but not the loudest sound.
