Thus, we can state that the engineering solution for the latest current recommended models of NTV-Plus receivers is the card reader on the left (it is located in the same way in the OpentechOHS-1740 model).

The functionality of the set-top box on the rear panel has also undergone some changes - the ventilation holes have disappeared, and the manufacturer also decided to “pack” the stereo and S/PDIF audio output connector - it is now made in the form of a small hole and for its use a special audio cable is included in the receiver package. Despite its small size, there was even an unoccupied space on the right side of the rear panel, but the manufacturer, “SagemcomBroadbandSAS” from France, decided that there was no need to install any more connectors. This may be true, but some small ventilation holes would be nice. And further. In order not to touch further on the production of the set-top box, it should be noted that it was produced by the same plant in Tunisia - “SagemTuniseCommunicationsSARL”.

Before turning directly to the operation of the set-top box, let’s remember the main complaints of installers and users of the SagemcomDSI87 terminal about its operation. If we put aside all sorts of little things, the most important thing that irritated us in the previous model was the very slow loading and slightly sluggish switching of buttons in the viewer interface. This is when the user presses a button on the remote control, and the set-top box reacts to it. So, the reaction was slow. It was as if the receiver was “thinking” every time whether he should perform this or that operation or not. I also remember the problem with the list of favorite channels, when you could arrange them in it with normal numbering and as you wish, but after each new boot of the receiver this list could disappear. I won’t lie - I don’t remember if this problem was solved in the latest software, but this seems like a small thing, but it was very annoying.

Well, let's go! We take our brand new “DSI74” and plug it into the mains, having previously connected it to satellite dish and to the TV via an HDMI cable (others are not included in the package). After turning on, the red indicator on the front panel flashes briefly, after which the green light turns on and the receiver offers to change the parental control PIN code. By default it is “0000”. Here we immediately remember that the 87th model, when loading, every now and then asks to change the parent PIN code. And until you do this, the receiver will not “calm down”. If you ignore the offer parental controls– press the “EXIT” button, after which the receiver should go to watching TV channels.

Here I would like to dwell on one small but very important nuance. The access card is inserted into the card reader not like on the “OpentechOHS 1740”, but with the chip facing up. You will look in vain for a description of this feature of the card reader in the “USER MANUAL” - nothing is written about it there. And for some reason, the “MANUAL” is also silent about where this card reader is located in the subscriber receiver. Therefore, remember - if the receiver detects the access card as incorrect, then turn it over and reboot the receiver - the receiver may not immediately accept it when it is “hot”.

After we move on to watching TV channels, let's try to check the switching time between them, as well as the ease of working in the user menu. Let's start with the pleasant - slightly, but the speed of the receiver's response to pressing a button on the remote control has increased. But it is unlikely to satisfy a sophisticated user. The closest competitors of “Sagemcom” and “NTV-Plus” - “Tricolor TV” have more fun set-top boxes. Another recommended model of camera set-top box, “OpentechOHS-1740,” also performed well in this regard. Therefore, if you are an impulsive person and want an almost instant response from the receiver to a particular operation that you set for it, then “SagemcomDSI74” is not for you and at this point you can stop reading this material. On the other hand, the loading speed of the receiver has increased significantly - and thank you for that.

The structure of the channels in the 174th is similar to that used on the 87th model. Possibility to highlight in a special color or even hide a TV channel that is not available on the current channel tariff plan, as implemented in “OHS-1740”, the 174th does not have it. Another “minus” in the receiver’s karma. But he could also have an “ace in his hole” - organizing channels in the “FAVORITES” list. But alas, this function works the same as on the previous model. No matter what wonderful list of channels you select in the favorites list, the next time you boot the receiver it is not only erased, but completely disappears from the channel layout structure in the viewer interface.

But let’s not continue to “kick” the new product from NTV-Plus, but let’s move on to the positive aspects.

Perhaps the most important thing is that the receiver does not get very hot. If the competing recommended model “OpentechOHS-1740” heated up to a decent temperature during my tests, which I carried out back in the winter, then “SagemcomDSI74” showed itself on the positive side in this regard. Now, when I am writing these lines, the room is approximately +26...+28 degrees Celsius, but the receiver does not resemble a hot cake a la “OpentechOHS-1740” after an hour of operation, which gets especially hot right in the place where the card reader is located . The 74 behaves quite peacefully in this regard, except that the right side of the receiver heats up more than the left (where the access card is located), but in terms of heating temperature the receiver seems definitely “colder” than the other main recommended model that is now on sale at dealers.

Let's try to find others positive sides"SagemcomDSI74".

RECORD. What a funny thing this is. There is a record button on the receiver's remote control, but there isn't one. To be more precise, there is a software blocking of the recording function. Probably, not all recommended receivers with a built-in hard drive have sold out yet. That's why there is no entry on the 74th. There is a “time shift” function. To use it you will have to sacrifice your, at least, USB flash drive. Why donate? Because it is formatted before use and is not used for more than the time shift function. And in the “USER MANUAL” there is not a word about recording either. But there is a J button

MANUAL CHANNEL SEARCH. It exists, but if you need to search for NTV-Plus channels, then all desires disappear after stating the fact that there is no network search. This annoying little thing almost immediately puts an end to the 74th in terms of using it somewhere else. Let's just say that to scan satellites at a constellation of 13, 19 or 42 degrees, it is better to choose some other device. Yes, and the channel numbering during manual search begins not with “one”, but with “1000”. I immediately remembered the second “Terminator” and returned the automatic search on the receiver.

After this, there was no longer any point in further “tinkering” in the 74th. We reviewed the main points that raised questions regarding “SagemcomDSI74”. It’s possible that I’m wrong and in some places this set-top box can give a head start to others, but for now we note that it heats up slightly. Who knows, sales have just begun, maybe the defect rate for these consoles will be very small. Of course, it’s better when the subscriber terminal works great, even if it’s cut down on all sides, than when it’s stuffed with all the goodies, but won’t come out of repair. Maybe the 74th “Sagemcom” just belongs to that group of receivers - “workhorses” that are simply designed for watching TV channels, with a stripped-down interface, but reliable. Time will show. By the way, the picture quality seemed quite good to me. Certainly better than the terminals of some competitors on the market.

It's time to draw a brief conclusion. And it is like this - if the receiver proves itself to be the best in terms of reliability, then it is worth paying attention to. At least because of the quality of the “picture”. I have no more compelling arguments in favor of “SagemcomDSI74”. But that’s what an opinion is for, so that someone else can express the opposite. In the meantime, my verdict is this – rather “NO” than “YES”. In the end, anyone who wants to get a high-quality picture can take the NTV-Plus module and use a good receiver or even watch the package directly through the TV. And if so, then I repeat that the “SagemcomDSI74” still has one significant, but not yet tested in practice, potential “plus” - reliability. But we will find out whether it exists in a few months.
