Review of the Zowie FK2 gaming mouse from ZOWIE GEAR. H Zowie FK1. Ascetic symmetry in drafts

The Spartak football club, owned by Lukoil vice-president Leonid Fedun, and the FC Otkritie bank, owned by the Central Bank, have extended their sponsorship agreementuntil 2023, said Mikhail Zadornov, chairman of the bank’s board. According to him, the new contract stipulates that the club’s stadium will retain the name “Otkritie Arena” for the next five years.

FC Otkritie became a sponsor of Moscow Spartak in February 2013. Then the parties announced a deal worth 1.2 billion rubles. According to its terms, the stadium of the Moscow club, which opened in September 2014 in Tushino, should be called “Otkritie Arena” for six years, and the bank’s symbols appeared on the team’s playing T-shirts, the Spartak press service reported.

Fedun and Zadornov did not disclose the financial terms of the new agreement. According to Fedun, this is a significant amount and “we can say that this is the largest naming contract in Eastern Europe.” “FC Otkritie” extended the contract with “Spartak”, despite the reduction in marketing costs this year by 30%, and in the future - by half, Zadornov noted: “But today we are signing an agreement for five years, because life and business teach that you need to highlight the main thing" (quote from Sport Express).

Until the fall of 2017, FC Otkritie was one of the largest private banks in Russia. However, a year ago the Central Bank announced the reorganization of the bank due to its unsatisfactory financial condition. Now the regulator owns 99.99% of Otkritie FC. At the end of 2017 Zadornov , that the extension of the sponsorship contract after 2018 with Spartak- subject of negotiations.

No IPO yet

According to Fedun, the IPO of Spartak has been postponed, since the club is still unprofitable without financial investments from shareholders. In addition, due to the lack of an investor, the construction of a 12,000-seat arena next to the stadium has been frozen.

Before the reorganization, among the minority shareholders of FC Otkritie were Fedun and Lukoil President Vagit Alekperov. " Lukoil"has been the general sponsor of the team since 2000, and Fedun has owned the club since 2004.

Packaging and equipment

Zowie FK1 comes in an austere package, where you can see the design of the mouse, as well as get acquainted with the technical characteristics.

The delivery set is as follows:

  • Zowie FK1
  • Spare legs
  • Stickers

Appearance

The mouse body is almost entirely made of black matte plastic. Zowie FK1 has a Soft-Touch coating, so the mouse fits securely in your hand. The “rodent” has no backlight.

The design of the Zowie FK1 is symmetrical - both right- and left-handed people can use the mouse. The size of the mouse is not very large, but it fits quite comfortably in the hand.

I was pleasantly surprised that Zowie placed the sensitivity adjustment button at the bottom; you can be sure that during serious gaming battles the sensitivity will not treacherously change due to awkward movement. Next to the button there is a light indicator, the color of which tells us the current sensitivity: red – 400 dpi, purple – 800 dpi, blue – 1,600 dpi, green – 3,200 dpi.

There are two additional buttons on the sides of the “rodent”, but the buttons on only one of the sides can be active.

The wire raises some doubts: it looks flimsy and not very reliable. The cable length is two meters.

In general, the mouse is assembled to a very high quality, all the gaps are uniform, there are no backlashes, and the buttons do not rattle.

Software

The mouse does not have software. Of course, this has its advantages and disadvantages. Unfortunately, it will be impossible to customize it completely for yourself, but you can still customize some characteristics: sensitivity, lift-off height, polling frequency, and turn on left-handed mode. The selected settings will remain in the Zowie FK1's memory, so when connecting to another PC, you will not need to waste time installing various drivers and preparing for work.

To change these settings, you need to hold down certain keys and connect the mouse to the PC.

  • To change the orientation of the mouse for left-handers, you need to hold down keys 1 and 3 and connect the mouse to the PC, after which the buttons on the right side of the mouse will start working. To reverse the change on right-handers, you need to hold down 2 and 3 keys and connect the mouse again.
  • Changing the sensitivity is done by simply pressing the yellow button below.
  • To select the polling frequency, you need to hold down a certain button and connect the mouse: 4 button - 1,000 Hz, 5 button - 500 Hz, 4 and 5 - 125 Hz
  • You will have to press the keys again: 4 and 2 - a separation of about 1.5 mm, 4 and 1 - a separation of about 1.65 mm, 4,1 and 2 - a separation of about 1.8 mm, 5 and 1 - the default separation height.

Test

Our test is subjective, however, we tried to accurately describe the behavior of the mouse in various gaming scenarios. We used a Steelseries mat.

First, we tested the mouse using the Enotus Mouse Test utility. Overall the results are good. "Rodent" showed the declared resolution - 3,200 dpi and a polling frequency of 1,000 Hz. The rest of the indicators are normal: accuracy of 99.8% is an excellent result. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the smoothness of the movement.

We tested the mouse in a number of modern games. In first-person shooters, the gadget allows you to quickly react to what is happening around you; as for RTS, the Zowie FK1 performed well here too. As was noted in the test, the mouse is a little lacking in speed, but this is only a subjective opinion. Overall, the Zowie FK1 is comfortable to use, and your hand quickly gets used to the shape of the mouse.

Conclusion

The Zowie FK1 made an excellent impression on us. Yes, the mouse does not have an outstanding design, but its performance completely compensates for this. Using the "rodent" is really nice. You can be sure that the Zowie FK1 will last a long time.

Advantages of Zowie FK1:

  • Easy to use
  • High quality sensor
  • No additional drivers or utilities

Disadvantages of Zowie FK1:

  • Settings are not flexible enough
  • The wire is somewhat questionable

The ZOWIE GEAR company is known among professional players and simply fans of computer games for the fact that it does not pursue design delights or market trends, but pays more attention to the functionality of the gaming devices they produce. Having started its creative journey in 2008, the company quickly achieved global recognition and popularity among professional players. Being big fans of games and working closely with players, the company's founders learned how to create unique gaming devices. Today we will talk about one of them.

On December 1, 2014, ZOWIE GEAR presented the world with a new gaming mouse with a discreet name ZOWIE FK2. The shape and performance of this device reminds us very much of its older sister, the FK1. However, there are differences between them, but we will talk about them below, but for starters specifications.

Packaging and equipment

The packaging is made in the form of a standard white cardboard box with a cutout to hold the mouse during purchase. Everything is quite simple and at the same time reliable, like the products themselves. On the front of the box you can see the name of the mouse in large black font, the company logo and the sensitivity switching circuit. The back and right side parts have a description of functionality and features in 10 languages. It's nice to know that the Russian language is also on this list. The left part informatively tells us what needs to be done in order to change the polling frequency for our “rodent”, as well as to change the orientation.

To remove the coveted device, you will need to get rid of the transparent tape that securely fixes the inside together with the mouse to the outside of the box. In general, the packaging evokes only positive emotions and speaks volumes about the quality of the contents.

The kit includes:

  • Gaming mouse FK2
  • Spare PTFE feet
  • Zowie Gear Logo Sticker

Features and appearance

As stated in the description, the mouse is designed for claw grip for right-handers and left-handers. A more thorough study of the “rodent” reveals this with your own eyes. The symmetry of the mouse is fully respected, and Zowie engineers really took into account all the nuances for players who will use the mouse in the right or left hands.

Both side surfaces have two keys. No matter which hand you hold the mouse with, you will still feel complete comfort because both of these keys will be under your thumb. This design feature of the mouse allows you to quickly switch from right to left hand and vice versa.

The mouse body is made of black plastic with a matte surface. You won't find a soft-touch coating here, but that doesn't stop the mouse from being one of Zowie's comfortable mice. Fingerprints and stains after use on the surface of the mouse are very difficult to notice.

The scroll wheel is made of yellow PVC. It immediately catches your eye and when scrolling, your fingers do not slip on it, as sometimes happens with other manufacturers. The scrolling step is clear and fixed. There was no wheel play felt during operation. When you press scroll, you hear a clear click with a muffled sound.

As I already said, the mouse is universal for both right-handers and left-handers, so pressing the right and left keys is practically no different. There is a slight difference in sound, but this does not affect the functionality and technical characteristics of the device.

The bottom of the mouse is unremarkable. Here you can see an optical sensor and a brightly highlighted DPI switch button with an indicator. For me, it's not The best decision. Many manufacturers, on the contrary, place a similar switch on the top of the mouse. The reason for this is the need to change the sensitivity while playing or using it. In the case of the FK2 model, you need to turn the mouse over and press the yellow button once, or even several times, to set the required sensitivity. There are four sensitivity modes: 400/800/1600/3200 and each has a specific color assigned to it. We are informed about this by a color indicator located just above the button itself. Information about which color corresponds to which DPI can be found on the front of the package.

The included Teflon feet can be easily replaced. To do this, on the back of the mouse, near the legs, you can see small holes for easy replacement. The length of the connecting cable is standard - 1.2 meters, but, unfortunately, the cable itself is not braided. There is a gold-plated USB connector at the end.

Software

To my great surprise, no software is included. Apparently this was done deliberately so that users would not bother with the compatibility of the mouse and drivers when they are away or at the championship. However, it is worth noting that the engineers from ZOWIE thought of the ability to change the mouse orientation and polling frequency without special software. To do this, you need to press the side keys while connecting. And to correctly orient the mouse, press the keys and scroll at the same time. Detailed instructions The settings can be found on the back of the box. Don’t forget about switching sensitivity, as mentioned earlier, it is done on the back of the mouse using a dedicated narrow yellow key.

Conclusion

ZOWIE FK2 is no different from the traditional design of FK series mice. The mouse received the latest generation sensor, as well as an important parameter for players - take-off distance. If you want to compare this model with the FK"14 and FK1 series models, you will not find many differences. Objectively, our mouse is slightly smaller in size, although the performance and form factor are no different from its sisters.

We have in our hands an excellent ergonomic mouse for right-handers and left-handers. The device was developed with the assistance of professional players, which led to all necessary and important features being taken into account in form and functionality. During testing in various gaming conditions, we can say that it behaved perfectly. Convenience and thoughtfulness of all the little things allowed us to enjoy the gameplay to the fullest. It's just a pity that the package does not include a carrying case. We all know that the mouse was created for players, and they often go to away competitions and a case would not be out of place in this case.

Pros:

  • Ergonomic and comfortable shape for right-handed and left-handed people;
  • Thoughtful and functional setup;
  • Plug and play (no drivers or software required);
  • Wide sensitive zone from 400 to 3200 dpi;
  • Supports all popular OS;

Minuses:

  • The cable is not braided;
  • Inconvenient location of the DPI button;

Under the cut there are 18 photos, 2 videos and a lot of text.

Button designations for customizing the Zowie FK1 / FK2 mouse.

Changing the hand button layout
  • Buttons 1+3 = right side buttons will work (for left-handed mouse use)
  • Buttons 2+3 = left side buttons will work (for right-handed mouse use)*
*default setting mode.

The default mouse layout is configured for the right hand. That is left button– click, right button – menu. The front side button (on the left side) is forward, the rear side button is back.
And here lies the very feature that I mentioned at the beginning of the review. Total number of mouse buttons 7 , however simultaneously can only be used 5 . If the layout is initially set for the right hand, then the two side buttons on the right side will be inactive and you will not be able to use them. Plus one more button on the belly of the mouse, which is responsible for switching dpi, but this is a functional button and we do not take it into account.

Changing the polling rate
When connecting the mouse to the USB port, press and hold:
  • Button 4 = 1000 Hz
  • Button 5 = 500 Hz
  • Buttons 4+5 = 125 Hz
The mouse polling frequency has three values: 125, 500 and 1000 Hz. The default is 1000 Hz and this is quite the optimal value. Find out the current polling rate without special program no way. To determine the polling rate, I used a simple program called Mouse Rate Checker. The first screen is the value set on the mouse to 500 Hz, the second screen is 1000 Hz.

Setting the lift-off distance from the surface
When connecting the mouse to the USB port, press and hold:
  • Buttons 4+2 = minimum lift-off height ~1.5 mm
  • Buttons 4+1 = average lift-off height ~1.65 mm
  • Buttons 4+1+2 = maximum lift-off height ~1.8 mm
  • Buttons 5+1 = lift-off height in default mode
The mouse initially has a small lift-off distance from the surface - less than 2 mm. If desired, you can change it to an even smaller one, which is suitable for other carpets. For example, for matte fabric or plastic. Again, there is no way to know if the setting has changed. It can only be seen or felt over time. For example, with the standard value, the mouse worked well on the XTrac Pads Fat Mat and on the Artisan Zero XSoft, and after setting the lowest value, the cursor began to move unevenly across the screen when using the Fat Mat, although no problems were noticed on the Artisan. That's how I learned about changing the lift-off distance and that it works and is perfectly adjustable.
Reflections on the topic
I didn't like the implementation of mechanical settings, so I decided to think a little about this topic. I don't like the fact that you have to take out the mouse, hold down certain buttons and insert the USB plug back into the computer, holding down a certain combination of buttons to apply the settings.
Although this is convenient because no drivers are required, the bad thing is that sometimes you have to struggle with it when something needs to be changed. And there is no way to determine what exactly has been changed. The polling frequency cannot be measured without a special program, and the setting of the separation distance from the surface cannot be checked in any way.
Honestly, the plug-n-play idea is good, but it could have been implemented much better. At first I completely skipped the point about holding down the buttons and thought that the mouse was not “Arbeiten”, but it turned out that all this is done only with the keys held down and when connected to the USB port. Everything except changing the dpi.

Here are solutions that are simple and elegant:
1) Leave it as is, but write a simple driver. And when there is no driver, the mouse is configured mechanically. And when I installed the driver (to hell with the driver - you only need one executable that determines whether this particular mouse is actually connected to USB, which is quite possible to do), I clicked the necessary settings, after which I pressed the accept button and the mouse blinked an indicator on its belly as a sign that the changes have been accepted. After removing the executable or when connecting the mouse to a different port, it would use the settings that had already been applied. And do some kind of hard reset on the mechanical keys to reset all the settings to factory settings. It would be ideal and very simple, but this contradicts the company’s philosophy - no software bullshit.
2) Make the same buttons, but trivially with blinking on the belly without disconnecting and then connecting to the USB port. Saves time, effort and nerves. The indicator below blinks in some Morse code depending on the changed setting (for the distance from the surface - one blinking pattern, for changing the hertz - another). The color of the indicator is the same as that for the selected dpi setting. It's simple - just pinch and hold. For 3 seconds, for example. And you don’t need to go into the system. Simple and beautiful, plug it in and forget it, change it if necessary. Comfortable! Moreover, this approach does not contradict the company’s philosophy; it just needs to be brought to fruition. Although they, of course, will not agree with this.

Testing

I tested it in CS GO. Just made a video on the Fast Aim / Reflex Training map.
Settings and options:

Permission: 1920x1080
Monitor: 60 Hz
Mouse sensitivity: 1600 dpi
Windows sensitivity: 6/11
Game sensitivity: 2.85
V-Sync: Off
LOD setting: minimum (~1.5 mm)
Carpet: Artisan Zero L XSoft

The mouse is very easy to control, both on fast and slow carpets. I tried to play with it on XTrac Pads Fat Mat and Artisan Zero XSoft (viscous mats for sliding), and on Cooler Master Storm RX (composite, quite fast mat and easy to slide; a bit similar to plastic), the mouse performed well on them . That is, on slow carpets all movements are performed clearly and at the same time you feel Feedback from moving the mouse across the surface, but even on a fast carpet the mouse retains good control thanks to its small mass. So choosing a mouse pad is a personal preference. Zowie has its own line of thin carpets that prioritize speed and ease of sliding. Surely they were made taking into account the mass of the company’s mice.
The hand spent a long time fingering the mouse in search of a comfortable shape, but this, ultimately, is a matter of habit. Now, as I wrote, I use a palm-claw grip and I feel quite comfortable with this grip.

The 3310 sensor proved to be the best in CS GO. It does not have its own acceleration; when software acceleration is turned off, the cursor movement is extremely uniform for any movements (whether fast and sharp or smooth and slow), the sensor itself is quite sharp, which is especially noticeable in 3D games (but this sharpness is not present in Windows and in 2D), its tracking on the carpet is very smooth, all movements are accurately recorded and I did not feel any flaws in its behavior. I was unable to tear off the sensor, although I used various carpets.

However, there is one detail that I am completely unaccustomed to - misses with AWP. More precisely, missclicks. That is, when aiming at a target, I press the sight button, after which I press “shoot” and immediately change weapons on the keyboard (a familiar combination, right?) and... I just don’t shoot. It seems like it should have been, but no. The fact is that the Zowie clickers are tighter, and after playing on softer and more pliable omrons, this habit remained - to feel the pressure and immediately change weapons. On Huano switches I do the same actions milliseconds later, which is why the shot is not fired. It is quite possible that this happened only to me, but this is my experience of using it. You get used to it when you get used to pressing the button.
I have another version, which is quite reasonable. Omron switches have an actuation point equal to a click. That is, if there was a click, then the switch worked and the click was registered. Huano Blue switches have an actuation point just below the click point. That is, first there is a “click”, after which the switch moves down slightly and after that the click is registered. That is, there is a slight delay, literally a few milliseconds, between pressing, clicking the button and registering this press. It turns out that when I press the Zowie button, I don’t press the button all the way, although I already hear (or rather, feel) a click, after which I immediately change weapons, but the press is not registered. And, accordingly, there is no shot. How did I find out? I tapped the mouse button and heard a characteristic click, indicating that the switch was activated, but the click did not register. This applies to both the left and right buttons. This is a feature of switches and it was unusual at first. But you quickly adapt to this.

Just a short video to listen and evaluate the clicks of the Zowie FK1.

Personal impressions and conclusions

In two weeks I got used to this mouse, found a comfortable grip for myself and I like using it. At first it was unusual, but I won’t say it was uncomfortable. The mouse fits well in the hand and has no unnecessary parts. Excellent form and execution.

Despite the lack of software, I don’t feel any deprivation, since I’m used to using only standard functions. But the mouse will work on absolutely any computer. If you have a USB plug, of course. This is a big plus, although only after setting it once and forgetting it, since the mouse settings are far from being implemented in the best way. It has inconspicuous and pleasant features that become noticeable only during use. The implementation of the sensor in the mouse is excellent - no complaints.

It is convenient to hold the mouse with a claw, finger, or some kind of hybrid grip - palm-claw, for example, which I use. For those who like to put their entire paw on the mouse, it will most likely not be suitable due to its shape. The mouse will work with MacOS. This also does not require any drivers (it is declared to work with OS X 10.2 and higher).

In general, this mouse is suitable for both connoisseurs of simplicity and professional players who often attend LAN tournaments. It is also suitable for those who simply like the company’s philosophy and approach to execution. But such simplicity also imposes a number of limitations that you will encounter - preset mouse sensitivity settings, the impossibility of detailed customization, no macros or additional options.

Pros of the mouse:

  • Form
  • Coating
  • Weight
  • Assembly
  • Workmanship
  • Wheel
  • Filling
  • Versatility

Minuses:

  • High price
  • Modest equipment
  • Implementation of settings

Peculiarities:

  • Stiff clicks
  • Tangible sound from clicks
  • Wheel sound (ratchet)
  • Yellow color wheel and logo
  • Glossy side buttons
  • Non-standard grip

And finally. First of all, you should choose a mouse by its shape, and not by its technical characteristics.

Thanks to Grafitec for providing the Zowie FK1 mouse for review.

An excellent accomplice to a dangerous killer.

A true gamer knows how important it is to use a quality mouse. The one who quits office jobs Logitech into the trash heap and turns his attention to gaming “rodents”, and is faced with a whole horde of manufacturers: Razer, Steelseries, A4Tech, Zowie and many others. The latter, by the way, was founded only 7 years ago, but has already become respected in professional e-sports circles. Meet our today's hero - a gaming computer mouse Zowie FK2.

  2. Design, quality of materials
  3. Usage
  4. Conclusion

Contents of delivery

In a stylish box with Zowie FK2 You will find the computer mouse itself, a branded sticker and a replacement set of legs. The latter, by the way, is very useful - over time they wear out, which negatively affects the quality of sliding.

Let's immediately clarify why the kit does not include drivers. The fact is that the company decided to completely abandon them, and all control capabilities are included in the combination of mouse buttons. On the site Zowie you can find instructions for switching the polling frequency (manufacturers have 3 options: 125Hz, 500Hz and 1000Hz), changing the resolution (400/800/1600/3200Dpi), switching the side operating buttons and changing the lift-off height (~1.5 mm, ~1. 65 mm, ~1.8 mm). And if everything is very clear with changing Dpi - you just need to turn the mouse over and press a button - then to change, say, the polling frequency, you need to hold down a certain button before connecting to the computer. However, the mouse “remembers” the last state, so you don’t have to configure everything every time.

The only problem with the lack of drivers is that you cannot configure macros without using third party programs.

Design, quality of materials

Zowie FK2 made of high quality plastic, the coating of which is slightly rubberized on the top and sides. The mouse is made of black color, with a yellow wheel and company logo. However, the surface can be noted as quite easily soiled - after using it for a week, stains have already begun to appear on it, visible in the light. By the way, when the Dpi changes, the laser will glow in different colors: 400Dpi - red, 800 - purple, 1600 - blue, and the maximum, 3200, - green.

A distinctive feature of the symmetrical Zowie FK2 is the presence of side buttons on each side. Moreover, by default, the right buttons are disabled, and to switch to them you need to press a certain key combination. The wheel is 24-speed, tight, made of rubber that is pleasant to the touch.

IN Zowie FK2 The company's engineers used Huano switches for the main mouse buttons. Thanks to this, the clicks are very well felt, and the travel of the buttons allows you to press them at a very fast pace, which will delight shooter fans. However, someone on the Internet says that after frequent use of the mouse, their fingers begin to hurt. We treat such claims with a great deal of skepticism.

The wire is rubber, quickly straightens and very flexible. The USB connector is gold-plated, in keeping with the latest fashion of real gaming mice, which is more of a design element rather than something that actually affects functionality.

Usage

All mice in the series FK Designed for claw grip. Variation FK2- reduced modification FK1. This is its main difference from its predecessor. However, no compromises were made in terms of quality - the mouse uses one of the best sensors on the market Avago 3310, which is deservedly adored by gamers around the world. A maximum resolution of 3200Dpi is the standard for all modern gaming mice.

Among the features are very precise mouse positioning and overall quality by all standards. Good job on any surface, as well as an ultra-low lift-off height of minimal 1.5 millimeters make FK2 a tasty morsel for gamers who prefer symmetrical mice for a claw grip. Thanks to the sensor, which only the lazy did not praise, the mouse moves exactly the same as you move your hand. That is, there is no cursor fine-tuning system, also called drift control. In other words, the mouse will not “think out” the movement for you. And this is very cool for professional gamers.

Them Zowie paid special attention. We have already said that the mouse does not have drivers and all changes can only be made mechanically. Now we’ll explain why this was done: the fact is that on many LANs gamers are prohibited from installing any third-party software to your computers. That's why mice like FK2- perfect option for a professional, because it will never let you down. In eSports, quality and reliability are highly valued - in a business in which a thousandth of a second can decide the outcome of a match, without this you can’t go anywhere.

Yes, another advantage was symmetry. Side buttons are located on each side of the mouse, providing the same experience for both left- and right-handed eSports players or enthusiasts. As mentioned above, the switching is mechanical; its rules can be found on the official website. And, again, as stated above, with macros Zowie everything is bad, and the use of third-party programs negatively affects the response speed of the mouse due to signal processing.

Separately, it is worth noting the build quality of the mouse. There is no hint of play, all buttons have good travel, a rubberized coating - you get pleasure from using the mouse. The only thing worth paying attention to is that the coating is quite easily soiled, so in order for the mouse to be in good condition all the time, you will have to clean it at least once a week.
Finally, let's note the dimensions FK2. The weight is perfectly balanced and is 85 grams - in fact, ideal for gaming mouse. Small dimensions are suitable for small and medium hands, but people with large palms will probably have to look at the model FK1, which is slightly larger. Besides, Zowie FK2 low enough, which allows you to slightly “unload” the hand and prevent the appearance of some non-fatal, but very unpleasant “sores”.

If speak about personal experience, then tested on a fabric carpet Razer Goliathus The mouse performed very well. If, for example, you switch to this mouse from budget options, you will immediately notice the difference. First of all, tactile quality - the quality of materials and assembly is at the highest level. Well, we have already said about the wide sensitive zone, low lift-off height and the ability to select the lift-off frequency.

***

Zowie FK2- an ideal option for a gamer who often travels to various LAN competitions. Outstanding quality, excellent functionality and the ability to customize basic parameters on site set the products apart from competitors. The only pity is that you can’t write macros. The cost is also not off the charts - today paying 4200 for a gaming mouse is standard.

For the average player, quality can also be a deciding factor. Taking it in your hand Zowie FK2 you almost immediately understand who will be your comrade in arms in the coming years.
