Set of icons for Android. The best icon sets for Android. Application icon goals

Everyone wants to make their phone or tablet truly special and one of the best ways execute this task- change the standard set of icons for Android to something more interesting.

This is very easy to do - just find the required set on Google Play or any other site on the Internet and install it.

This is done in the same way as with any other program. However, after this the device will most likely reboot, after which the user will see completely different icons on the screen. Therefore, it makes sense to consider the most popular and unusual assemblies that can only be found on the Internet.

TAY

This kit has a very interesting minimalist style. All icons are square, bright and very neat. The set includes as many as 1880 icons and 24 desktop background options. Each design was developed the best designers from the mowmo team. Each icon is framed with a shadow and a 3D effect. There are also widgets for weather and notifications, made in a corporate style.

Dark Synergy

Everything here is done in very dark and even gloomy colors, although you can put a white background and then everything will seem less gloomy. In any case, it all looks very impressive and beautiful. Each icon is also framed. There are a total of 600 different options in the assembly, each of which is responsible for certain functions.

MIUI

One of the most popular sets in the world, which is used on many Xiaomi phones, Meizu, HTC and others. Features beautifully crafted rounded corners around each icon. This is one of the largest sets - it includes as many as 3800 badges. The problem can only arise due to a conflict with the launcher, because MIUI does not support all modern launchers for Android.

Easy Square

This set will really appeal to those who love minimalism in everything. The icons here do not have rounded corners or any other special details. There are simple square options here and nothing else. Of course, some may find it too simple, but lovers of minimalism will definitely like Easy Square.

Voxel

Another set of square, minimalist icons that will really appeal to those who don’t like clutter in any form. They here, as many people think, are prettier than in other collections, which is why Voxel is much more popular than Easy Square or TAY. In general, you definitely need to pay attention to this option.

Lumos

Here everything is more interesting - there is a set of “live” icons. What makes them so is the quality work of designers with shadows. All the icons here are also placed in a square frame, but they already have rounded edges, which makes them more attractive. This is not to say that there is some kind of clutter here; everything is done very neatly and beautifully, so lovers of minimalism should also take a look. Although this is certainly not Voxel - everything is done much more interesting.

Dekk

This set is very similar to Lumos, but the icons have a special look due to the fact that the edges of the frames are colored. There are 2,100 options in total, which is more than in Lumos. Some of the icons in Dekk look really nice and unusual. There are also backgrounds and widgets to display various information.

Attention! If you decide to download the Dekk set from something other than Google Play (not from the link below), be careful. You may come across the Dekkoo application, which has nothing to do with the icons on Android and can cause severe disgust.

Soul

This set is completely different from anything we've seen before. Here the icons are round, made in a somewhat cartoonish, playful style. Some of them seem to wink. There are 2,300 pieces and 13 desktop wallpaper options (all, by the way, in HD quality). Basically, the decoration here is dark and very effective. This combination looks really fascinating, believe me!

Numix Circle

This style is a combination of Soul and any of the above sets where the icons are placed in a frame. Here the icons are round, but everything is framed - a frame of the color that matches the application. In Numix Circle everything is somehow more rosy, beautiful, simple and interesting. Of course, everything is not so spectacular, but it’s also very good.

Veno

And this is a mixture of Numix Circle, TAY and Lumos. The icons are round and minimalistic, they are in a frame, but the edges of this frame are also colored - a very unusual combination. The Carizmian team still managed to achieve a minimalist combination of different styles, which combines all the best from other manufacturers. Many people think that this set is still somewhat dull.

Equinox

A very unusual set, in which the icons are also round (in the form of water drops), but black and white. And the backgrounds here are also two-color. It all looks very dark, but effective. This is just what you need for the fall season. Take it all from operating system Sailfish, which is unknown to most modern users. Now this OS lives in our memory only thanks to this very set. There are 3700 icons and 10 desktop background options.

Stamped Black

Another very dark but effective set of icons, which is perfect for those who like everything in this style - the same type, dull, even gloomy, but with a twist. There are no frames here, each of them represents a separate drawing. This set also does not provide background options. Interestingly, such a set of icons can greatly save battery power, because with it the screen does not require many resources to operate.

This is what the list of the most popular and interesting icon sets for Android looks like today. Below you can see instructions for installing them.

Square Icon Pack

Square Icon Pack turns all your icons, including round ones, into perfect squares. The icons here look like little tiles from Windows Phone and Windows 8.1. Free version It doesn’t offer as many icons as the paid version, but it’s quite enough for successful use.

Rounded

If you don't like square icons, then maybe round icons will suit your taste. The theme developers say they were inspired by the design of Mozilla's new Firefox OS.

Dainty Icon Pack

If you're tired of all the colors, check out this sleek theme that offers stylish gray and white icons for over 1,200 apps. They look perfect against any uniform background.

Simplex Icons

Simplex icons look more contrasting than the previous theme, but are also made in the spirit of minimalism. This icon pack can decorate your gadget, especially if you choose other design elements in the same style.

Min Icon Set

This icon pack is the quintessence of primitivism in its purest form. All icons for over 570 apps are simple white symbols. However, apps that are not included will be represented by their own icons in a white circle.

Elegance

Compared to the previous kits, Elegance looks a little overcrowded with a large number of details and gradients. These icons, and there are more than 1200 of them in total, look like real works of art, almost like full-fledged paintings.

Michael Flarup, designer at Appicontemplate.com, shares how to create the best icons for Android

At the end of last year, Google introduced new guidelines for Android icons Launcher or, as they are also called, Product Icons. It's very good documentation for guiding designers down the path of a unified visual language, and perhaps the best thing to happen to icons on Android. So, of course, my new icon template is a bit late. You can immediately download the PSD or read more about the main differences between the new “product” icons.

Limitations are natural when working with icons, and for many years icons on Android existed without rules. On iOS we are all limited to rounding, there is no transparency, designers are in stricter limits. If you've ever designed icons for any Android versions, you know you can do almost anything with those 512*512 pixels. On Google Play you can find any shapes, effects, there are no restrictions on the alpha channel. Several attempts have been made to establish standard sizes and shapes on transparent canvases, but Google itself has changed its decisions more than once. So freedom is good, right? But not when you look at it from a user experience perspective. Icons similar to each other create a much more convenient, readable and reliable OS. Google knows this and is taking giant steps to clean up this entire system of third-party apps with well-documented design guidelines. Icons are now part of this effort, and with this updated template I hope to make it easier for you to move down this path.

So how do these guidelines help developers unify icon design? They consist of several instructions on different aspects. I won't try to rehash existing (and excellent) material the guidelines themselves, but I'm going to focus on a few things that my template will help you with. When you finish reading, you will understand the basic concepts that make up an app icon design and how this template will help you with it.

Grid and guides

The grid not only helps determine the composition of the icon elements, but also forms key shapes. In the new template, you'll obviously find a grid to guide you on the canvas, but there will also be predefined basic shapes: square, circle, horizontal and vertical rectangles. Each shape is described in the Google guide and is available in a separate template folder.

You should not Stick strictly to just these shapes, but it's a great start and will probably be a huge source of icon consistency. Building from these elements will make your icon look legitimate. It will naturally fit with other icons that follow the grid and give a feeling of consistency. As described above, both the advantage and disadvantage of the Android app is the ability to create unique silhouettes, something that is not available on iOS. This is an advantage because the designer is less constrained, allowing him to pay attention to his application. This is a weakness because it opens the door to visual fragmentation. Grid and Guides are Google's attempt to combine these two extremes. Transparency is still ok and you can still do what you want, but there is a guide and standard forms will make your application part of a single universe.

Light and color

The core of visual material is tactility and physicality. To describe light, Google uses the analogy of paper being cut, folded, and illuminated.

The material is rigid, with clear edges and folds. Matting is combined with light penetrating light and long-lasting shadows.

This creates a generally predictable pattern of light; small light shadows just below the components, followed by the now-famous “long shadow”. Typically a 45 degree gradient from black to translucent black with 20-40 percent opacity is used. All of these layer styles can be found inside the template, so you can make your own shadows.

The color scheme is well organized and you don't have to look long at the palette presentations to appreciate the work that went into selection. The icon template comes with 28 base colors, 5 shadow colors and white for shading.

Above you can see suggested colors for the product icon on Android.

The top and bottom edges of a material element give a sense of depth and surface.

The edges of the material are 1 dp thick and 20% transparent halftone (top) or shadow (bottom). A color scheme dictates which undertones and shadows suit which color groups. They are all linked in the template as separate layer masks that can be turned on and off for ease of experimentation.

Most icons use a very light finish light source at 45 degrees. It goes from the top left corner to the outer edges of the icon shape. This is given as one clipped layer in the template.

Geometry and Anatomy

It's better to look at the actual standards that are defined for each basic form. Sets of squares, circles, rectangles, orthogonals and diagonals make up a small palette of elements to unify the geometric visual language and systematize the arrangement of elements on the grid.

Due to the very physical approach, it makes sense to think about the anatomy of the Inonka and how each component fits on top of the others. Google describes the classic icon design as a series of layers:

  1. Finish
  2. Material background
  3. Material foreground

It's worth getting to know these elements, and Google has it all laid out very clearly in guides.
