How is it in practice?

Appearance of Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro

First, let's look at the keyboard design.

Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro

Black keyboard with adjustable red backlighting and bright glowing red letters Tt on its front part, a palm rest.

The brightness of the red backlight is adjusted with the * (asterisk) key, on the right in the top row. And here is the flaming logo Tt can only be disabled after installing the software.

Logo on Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro

On the sides of the keyboard, which is practically little different from a regular one, there are 10 T-keys. These buttons can be programmed after installing the software from the included disk (or from the website Thermaltake).

Left side Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro Right side Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro

In addition to these 10 keys - 5 on each side of the keyboard - there is a profile switch button 123, it is next to the backlight adjustment button. Indication of the profile being used, as well as indication of the CapsLock, NumLock and ScrollLock modes, is on the indicators at the top of the keyboard, in the center.

Backlight and indicators on Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro

These are light indicators and are clearly visible. The user will have to remember which of the four possible profiles corresponds to green, blue, purple or red LED colors. Next to the specialized keys, without breaks, in the same row there are volume control keys, content playback controls, ScrollLock, PrintScreen and function keys.

Using the included extractor, we can easily replace part of the keyboard keys. These are the W, A, S, D keys, the cursor arrows and two Windows key stubs. At your choice, the W, A, S, D keys and cursor arrows can be black or bright red, and installing placeholders instead of the Windows keys will prevent you from “falling out” of the full-screen game mode due to accidentally pressing them instead of the Alt or Ctrl keys.

At the top of the keyboard face Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro there are two more special ports - connectors for connecting a cooling fan, closed with rubber plugs. The cooling fan itself is stored at the back of the keyboard Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro- in a special niche.

Back edge of Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro

By taking it out and installing it in any of the fan ports of your choice, we can organize a light air flow in the direction of the hands, which, according to the developers, should increase comfort during long-term gaming, prevent moisture on the fingertips and slipping of the fingers on the keyboard.

Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro cooler

In addition to the niche for storing the fan, we found two more free full-size USB ports and a mini-USB port at the back of the keyboard, which is used to connect a removable cable to the keyboard. Full-size ports can be used to connect any devices whose consumption does not exceed 100 mA each, this is the limitation of the user manual.

Let's turn the keyboard over. There is nothing special on the bottom surface - four rubber feet, two niches in which folding stops are hidden for changing the angle of the keyboard.

Back side of Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro

It is also worth mentioning the n-shaped channel, designed to fix a removable USB cable in it, and the red plastic insert, which serves decorative purposes.

Using the Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro Keyboard

Keyboard Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro sticks perfectly to the table surface. But, as soon as we fold away the two stops from below, changing the angle of the keyboard, we lose two of the four rubber feet, the “tenaciousness” of the keyboard Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro will get worse. Visually Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro differs little from a regular, printed keyboard. But it is not Russified. Therefore, “out of the box” you can only type Latin texts on it.

The 64 KB internal memory allows you to store 40 values for 10 T-keys (10 keys X 4 profiles). One value can be either a preset command or a whole series of actions recorded as a macro. The interface for editing macro commands allows you to make changes after recording, for example, optimizing the delay time between commands in accordance with gaming needs.

Having saved the macros, we can send them immediately to the profile we need, to the keyboard Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro. And we can save macro commands and profiles from these commands to the computer disk and load them as needed. As already mentioned, we have 64 KB of memory at our disposal - 4 profiles of 10 keys each (each key can contain a macro command).

The only thing is that the developers Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro not taught to remember - the state of the logo Tt. This means that by disconnecting the keyboard from the computer at home (where the logo was disabled), and coming with it to a friend or to a tournament, we will receive a bright scarlet glowing logo on the front panel of the keyboard as soon as we connect our Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro to another computer. The only way to block the glow of the logo is with adhesive tape. We will be able to adjust the brightness of the keyboard backlight using the corresponding button, but in order to turn off the logo completely, we will have to first install software from Thermaltake to this computer.

But still, gaming features Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro thought out. Registering your profile on the site allows a professional gamer to always have the necessary profiles at hand and anywhere in the world to bring his keyboard in line with the gaming tasks at hand, this is not bad.

Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro | Summary

A keyboard for a gamer - perhaps more accurately Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro you can't describe it. If you do not have touch typing skills, then you can only type Latin texts using this keyboard - Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro not Russified. But it is perfectly suited for traveling to gaming tournaments: a keyboard cover, a removable USB cord, a cord cover, and a 64 KB memory for storing game macros.

The keys of this keyboard can be replaced with familiar gaming arrow combinations, software will allow you to save individual settings for various gaming solutions. For a pleasant immersion in the game, not only the “stuffing” of the computer is important, allowing you to enjoy high FPS in any modern games, but also the periphery. In this case we'll talk about keyboards, of which there are a great many on sale now, from simple office models to very expensive models with displays and other bells and whistles. Thermaltake, known for its cooling systems and cases, decided to try its hand in this area.

For this purpose, an eSports division was formed, which began to develop and produce gaming devices. On this moment The product list includes 2 mice, 4 keyboards, 2 headsets, 2 rugs and a gaming glove. I received 2 keyboards for testing - these are Challenger And Challenger Pro. I decided to start with the last one, because... more expensive and more complex is not always better.

A distinctive feature of the Challenger keyboard series is the presence of a fan. According to the developers, it should blow air on the palms during heated battles. Is it so? Let's check.

The Thermaltake Challenger Pro comes in a huge black cardboard box, which houses both the keyboard and accessories quite securely.

The keyboard is in a black case with the developer’s logos and model name. This kind of thing is more of a fashion statement than a necessity, because... This case will only be used a couple of times at most. But when you take the keyboard out of the box, you get the feeling of a high-quality and solid thing.

The device itself is made in red and black colors with a predominance of the latter. Unfortunately, it is quite difficult to convey this in photographs, but the quality of the materials is at a high level. Dimensions are 505x195x27 mm. To be honest, when I photographed the keyboard for review, I encountered some difficulties due to its size and very reflective coating. Although it fits on the table without problems.

Let's move on to accessories:

In the kit you can find:

* Instructions in 15 languages, Russian is present.

* USB – Mini USB cable with gold-plated contacts in a fabric case.

* Another case in which the keys are arrows and wasd instead of red. Also 2 “plugs” for the Win keys, a tool for removing the keys and a spare plug for the fan connector.

* Disk with software.

I’ll immediately express my doubts about the cable - what’s the point of gold-plated contacts when motherboards do they cost the regular ones? Again a tribute to fashion? It is worth noting that the cable is braided and has a rotated plug mini USB, which is very convenient when placing the keyboard in a limited space. Next to the keyboard connector there are 2 more - these are full-size USB 2.0. True, they are convenient to use only if the keyboard is located far from the monitor or on a retractable tray, and even then you will have to unfold the device.

I’ll also express my “fie” about the plugs - in keyboards from other companies there is a problem with pressing a key Win solved much simpler and more elegant: either a separate button or a switch.

The keyboard has 4 backlight level:

You can control the backlight either through software or with a special key. In the dark, the required backlight power is provided only by level 4, i.e. the other 2 are essentially for show. The Tt logo can also be disabled via software.

Now let's move on to the software. The utility is called Challenger Avenger.

In the illustration above, I tried to describe the functionality of the program as fully as possible. The main interest is the configuration of 10 additional keys located on the sides of the main layout. They can be assigned either ordinary operations performed by a combination of hot keys or by right-clicking the mouse, or the ability to select all text (called “All”), run any .exe file or execute a macro. And if everything is very clear with the first two points, then macros should be examined in more detail.

You can assign a custom macro to any of the 10 additional keys. This is very simple to do: click the “Record” button, then enter the required keystroke sequence and click “Stop”. The program records not only the sequence, but also the intervals (delays) between clicks, each of which can then be set manually. You can also save the macro to a file or, conversely, load it from a file.

In general, the software interface is quite friendly, it is difficult to get confused in it, there are tooltips for buttons with icons. I would call the functionality sufficient: the ability to customize the backlight, save and load profiles from a file, quite extensive options for customizing 10 additional keys, including macros. I will also mention 4 independent profiles, which are stored in the 64 KB of built-in memory of the keyboard and are switched by the corresponding key on it. At the same time, you can understand which one is selected by the light indication: the LED glows red, blue, green or purple.

It's time to return to the keyboard itself. To begin with, I would like to say about the fan, which Tt positions as one of the main features of the keyboard. In total, you can install 2 of them, but the kit comes with 1. Considering that in most cases one hand is on the keyboard and the other on the mouse, one is enough. The air flow is felt and actually blows your hands. However, due to the wrist rest, the hand sweats a little in the lower (if you place your hand with your fingers up) area of the palm, and accordingly, a fan is practically a necessity, without which it will be somewhat uncomfortable in hot battles. In order to create any noticeable flow, a fan of this size requires an extremely high rotation speed. And this affects the noise - the fan makes noise, and quite noticeably. The connection connector also contributes to this, as it has some play, which causes vibration. Unfortunately, I don’t have a sound level meter, but on the Internet there were figures of 39-40 dB, I would compare it with the noise of a stock GTX470/480 turbine at 60-65% rpm. And although the noise is local in nature, i.e. from 3 meters it is almost invisible, at night against the background of a quiet system unit the fan will be heard.

The height of the keys is quite low, comparable to that of laptop keyboards. However, the travel of the keys is quite large, they are pressed clearly, no noticeable play was detected. The above-mentioned wrist rest is almost ideally shaped if the hand is positioned on the wasd layout. But when typing, the low height of the keys, coupled with the stand, creates certain inconveniences: if you press the spacebar with the side of your thumb (and this is how your finger rests comfortably on most keyboards), then it constantly rests against the stand. There are also inaccuracies when typing quickly, when out of habit you use the entire area of the key, and not just its center: in this case, pressing is tighter and less accurate. And if you can get used to it in 10 minutes, then it’s very difficult to come to terms with the space. I wrote the first part of the review, dedicated to the Challenger Pro, from it, and the second part about a more simplified version of the Challenger (without the Pro prefix), respectively, from the second keyboard. Both do not have Russian letters on the keys, but for most this is unlikely to be a problem.

So let's move on to the pros and cons and the final verdict.

Pros:

*Aggressive and attractive design. Personally, I like it and it gives the feeling of a quality item.

*Availability of 4 levels of key backlighting.

*Gaming suitability is at a fairly good level: 10 additional keys, 4 profiles, the ability to create macros.

*Keys are relatively quiet to press.

*A keyboard case, a set of accessories - although not very useful things, this is more of a plus than a minus.

*Fan(s).

Minuses:

*The fan is noticeably noisy. Two fans are even worse, but there is no need for a second one.

*The fan is more of a necessity given the stand than an advantage over other keyboards.

*Certain inconvenience when typing.

As a result, I will say the following: this keyboard– an ideal gift for an undemanding gamer. He will be pleased with both accessories and appearance keyboards. He will find use for additional keys, and perhaps even use macros. He will get used to some inconveniences over time. If you are looking for a serious gaming keyboard, then my advice to you is to pass it by. For a recommended price of $75 (in Russia it is quite problematic to buy it, I managed to find it somewhere in Murmansk and from one of the 3logic partners, prices are at the recommended level) you can buy much more interesting models from Logitech, Razer, Microsoft (Sidewinder X6) - they much more thoughtful for the game, superior in functionality and quality to the model from Thermaltake. On the other hand, the Challenger Pro will definitely find its buyer, but it’s unlikely to be among experienced players.

The next part will look at the Tt Challenger keyboard, as well as a comparison of the two models.

Special thanks to Ivanova Marina.

The cable here is already removable; it is connected to the keyboard using a mini USB, and to the computer using a regular USB plug. The wire, as in the previous case, is thick and covered with a synthetic cord. On the bottom panel of the keyboard there are four anti-slip rubber pads, as well as two folding legs for adjusting the angle of inclination and a groove for convenient placement of the wire.

There are no complaints about the stability of the Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro. It stands securely on any surface.

Software

The manufacturer took care of the availability of software included in the delivery of both keyboards of the Tt eSPORTS series. The keyboard software is identical. The program interface is made in the style of the devices themselves: in a red and black color scheme. On the top left are four tabs for game profile settings. To configure them, you need to select the desired T-key and, using the Record button, record the combination of the required keys. While entering a combination, the delay time will be automatically saved. If necessary, you can always set up a keyboard shortcut with a macro by pressing the up keys, down or Delete or adjust the delay time.

In addition, you can additionally select options for the Repeat macros. Once you have configured all 10 individual T-keys in four profiles, you can save them by clicking the "save" button located in the lower right corner of the program window. Or, conversely, add the configuration to the program using the “download” button. In addition, there is an "upload" button, with which you can save the configuration directly to the keyboard's built-in memory. For the older model, the memory capacity is 64 KB, and for the Tt eSPORTS Challenger - 32 KB. In the upper right corner of the program window there is a timer that allows players to monitor the total duration of the game. Also in the program window there are buttons for adjusting the brightness of the backlight: 0%, 25%, 75% and 100%.

Impressions from work

Both keyboards support operating systems Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. For normal placement on the table, a lot of free space is required; None of the keyboards can boast of compact sizes; this is not relevant in the class of gaming accessories. Thanks to the comfortable palm rest and pleasant key travel, your hands do not get tired at all. If we compare the ease of typing between the Tt eSPORTS Challenger and the Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro, the latter seemed more comfortable to me due to the low-profile keys. However, this is a matter of habit. If you've used thin keyboards before, the Challenger Pro will definitely suit you better.

A fan for blowing your left (or right - depending on which keys you use to control games) hand is an interesting idea, at first glance. In theory, it should blow air on the fingers on the keys , , , : the fingers do not sweat, do not slip off the keys, pressing occurs without error. At home, a fan is almost useless, but if you often play in stuffy clubs or other indoor environments, a fan can be useful. By the way, it is not as simple as it might seem at first. It rotates at a speed of six thousand revolutions per minute and operates completely silently.

Thermaltake keyboards have no obvious disadvantages. I didn’t really like the design of the Enter key – it’s narrow, rectangular, and very small. But you can quickly get used to this.

For convenience during games, you can block the button Windows and also replace the buttons

As a rule, professional gamers have two requirements for input devices or, as they are also called, devices: functionality and durability. Even impact resistance. However, the developers of Tt eSPORTS Challenger (Black) went further and added originality to the design. No pretensions to pretentiousness, a strict black keyboard with a fan to cool your hands. Here you have functionality and durability in a stylish bottle.

Let's start with the fact that the keyboard comes with an original fabric case. Convenient when you often have to carry your keyboard with you, travel to competitions, etc. Of course, for ease of cleaning there is a key remover and 2 dummies for the Windows function key.

Separately, I would like to consider the design: in this case, size matters. Yes, the Challenger keyboard is quite wide and long, and it’s also wired (no worries about the cord, the thick silicone wire does not wear out). However, small and flat keyboards are not in demand in the gaming class. The device is suitable for confident male hands. But all the keys are located so well that your hands fall into the right combinations. The button presses are smooth, but with a clear sound and responsiveness, without getting your fingers tired.

How do we distinguish the original keyboard? Just pay attention to the keys: the engraving of functional F1-F12 is blue, the Tt logo is lit at the bottom center of the keyboard. Infernal red backlighting also frames the key indicators ( Caps Lock), (Num Lock), (Scroll Lock), an original solution that catches the eye not only in the dark.

The innovation that the developers included in the design of the Challenger (Black) keyboard is a compact groove for the fan and USB port. To connect a convenient cooler, you need to use the function keys and connectors, ideally hidden under rubber pads. So, we work and have fun all day long - a pleasant breath of fresh air will caress and stroke your fingers. Just a joke, of course. But the thing is irreplaceable.

There are a few more nice features from the developers:

  • Rubber pads on the bottom (4 pcs.) are enlarged, preventing slipping;
  • At the back there is a niche for the wire - a simply irreplaceable invention for a gaming portable keyboard;
  • The software has an accessible and intuitive interface in a characteristic red and black color scheme.

Interface settings allow you to additionally set macro parameters with the Repeat function, backlight brightness level, as well as settings for 10 T-keys. The memory capacity is 32kb; by the way, the keyboard interface has a timer for the duration of the game round - in the right corner at the top of the window. So, the lucky winners watch and control the clock.

Overall, the Tt eSPORTS Challenger is worth buying at low prices.

How often do you use macro commands in various games? Yes, there are still players who have not even tried them in action and do not understand that it is very convenient and effective. This may be due to the fact that multifunctional gaming keyboards that allow you to create and use macros are too expensive. Today we would like to present to your attention a budget gaming keyboard from Thermaltake. Meet the Tt eSports Challenger Prime. Let's take a closer look at this new product.

Appearance

The device is controlled by high-quality materials and excellent assembly; it is made of black plastic. The good news is that the plastic does not emit the unpleasant odors of cheap plastic. In addition, you can see matte and glossy inserts around the edges, giving the keyboard a premium look.

The layout of the main block of keys is made in the usual pattern, except for the shortened Enter and additional Fn key.

On the left side of the main block of keys there are additional keys for macros T1-T6.

On the top there are separate multimedia keys, next to which you can see the keys for changing the profile.

Between them there is a backlight brightness control wheel. Initially, the thought that comes to mind is that it is responsible for adjusting the volume, but the developers decided to go further and added an interesting feature.

The key travel is long, and the sound is very soft and pleasant, but it is still audible, especially if you are going to play your favorite game after everyone has gone to bed. The font used is easy to read.

I was pleased that the cursor block, Insert-PageDn and number keys remained without any changes.

There is a palm rest on the bottom of the device; the good news is that it is long enough so that your hands do not hang in the air while playing or working. Of course, ideally it would have been possible to nominate her. The dragon logo is located on the central part.

Rubber feet are attached to the bottom of the keyboard to prevent the device from slipping. There are also folding legs here that allow you to increase or decrease the angle of inclination.

Particular attention will be drawn to the special holes necessary for draining liquids in case you spilled water on the keyboard, for example. That is, the device is protected from water, but this does not mean that the keyboard can be washed under the tap and dipped entirely in water.

The power cable has a fabric braid and its length of 1.5 m is enough to install the keyboard in any place convenient for you.

Settings and functionality

Let's start with the fact that on the company's official website you can download software for this gaming keyboard, from where you can fully configure all the necessary functions and configure macros. The software itself is very simple and easy to use, which allows even the most inexperienced users to understand all the manipulations.

Here you can create several profiles, for example for each game. If you are not interested in macros, then you can assign any other commands to additional keys. I was pleased that the functions of the keys from the main panel can also be changed. You can save your profile and not worry about its safety, which allows you to use your settings even when transferring the keyboard to other PCs.

The backlight received three colors: red, blue and purple. In addition, you can switch the backlight to pulsating mode. The device performs well in the dark. Thanks to the backlight brightness control, you can always set the optimal value for yourself.

The macro keys are conveniently located, you can easily reach them with your little finger and use them necessary commands. In addition, up to three profiles can be saved in the device and specially designated M1/2/3 keys are used to switch between them. That is, the macro keys can become 18, instead of 6.

For convenience, the developers installed on top panel multimedia function keys: “my computer”, browser, return to the home page in the browser and control keys for media player functions. In addition, using the Fn+PrtScr key combination, you can switch to game mode, thereby disabling the Windows key functions. In addition, additional functions that work in combination with the Fn key are located on the F1-F12 keys.

Results

Let's summarize the Challenger Prime gaming keyboard. For a low cost, you get an almost complete replacement for expensive solutions. Among the advantages, the following can be noted: high-quality assembly and materials, great design, additional control buttons, the ability to create macros, availability of software, good backlighting and of course the price. Of the minuses, nothing caught our eye personally. The device fully justifies its cost. The choice is yours, we can only show and tell.
