Nothing in our world is perfect, and therefore, when buying the most modern equipment, after some time it is replaced by more advanced models. In this sense, Samsung was no exception. To extend the technical relevance of previously released television models, the company makes it possible to use Evolution Kit hardware modules or offers a firmware update Samsung TV via the Internet or USB port.

The Evolution Kit is only relevant for flagship models of the ES7500 series and higher, and PDP TVs of the E8000 series. However, this method involves additional costs, but in return it takes your model to new level functionality and technical solutions without replacing the TV with a model from the new line.

In addition, the developers have provided a software update on Samsung TVs, which makes it possible to correct errors made in previous versions firmware and add certain functionality to previously released models.

It should be noted that the Evolution Kit module updates the hardware (for example, increases processor performance) and software components of the device, and software updates do not affect physical components. Some Evolution Kit modules have already been discontinued, but the firmware update is still relevant to this day.

As I said above, you can update the TV’s firmware via the Internet directly from Samsung’s servers, or using a USB flash drive by first downloading the latest version of the software from the official website.

I do not recommend using the “Update in standby mode” (auto-update) function, which allows you to set a time range to check the availability of the latest software for your TV model on Samsung servers. The fact is that:

  1. Using this function, the firmware may not install correctly, which in turn will inevitably lead to malfunctions of the TV. In some cases, the problem can only be solved by replacing the motherboard.
  2. According to the set auto-update interval, the TV will communicate via the Internet with the company’s servers. There is no guarantee that the TV will establish a connection during the day and therefore the TV may turn on spontaneously at different times of the day.
  3. If during the update the firmware file turns out to be too large, the function will not be able to download and install new software and the TV may freeze.
  4. When updating the firmware via Wi-Fi or LAN cable, there is a high probability of the connection being lost, which may adversely affect the operation of the TV.

That's why I recommend disabling this feature and updating software TV via USB. To disable this option, you need to go to “Menu” - “Support” - “Software Update” - “Update in mode. standby" (Auto-update) - "Off". It must be said that the latest version of the firmware appears on the company’s servers a little earlier and only then is it posted on the website.

Firmware update on Samsung TVs via USB.

The first thing you need to do is go to the official Samsung website and find your TV model. To speed up the process, enter search bar your TV model. For example, let's enter the TV model UE40H6240AK.

After this, a page with the manual and software for this model will open. Click on the first item “Built-in software” and you will be taken to a page with technical description models.

Here we need to find and download update file ( USB type) . Before you start downloading new firmware make sure you really need it. Compare the current version number (already installed) on the TV with that posted on the official website.

To do this, on the TV, go to “Menu” - “Support” - “Software Update”.

You can also see the version if you go to “Support” - “Contact Samsung”.

If the version offered for download on the official website has a higher number, then it makes sense to download and install new software on the TV. Pay attention to the language present in the update package on the site. There are two update files available here with multilingual and Russian language. By the way, they differ only in this and there is no other difference between them.

Only after this, proceed to download the firmware onto a clean and pre-formatted USB drive in FAT32 format. To start downloading the “fresh” software to your computer, left-click on the file. Then format the USB flash drive and close all programs. If or you do not know how to format it, follow the link provided.

Double-click on the firmware file to start unpacking, and if at the same time the security system notifies and asks: “Unable to verify the publisher. Do you really want to run this program?”, then uncheck the “Always ask when opening this file” checkbox and click the “Run” button.

A new window will ask you to extract the firmware package to a USB drive. Specify the location of the flash drive and click “Extract”. Once unpacking is complete, remove the media from your computer and insert it into the TV's USB port.

To start updating the software, go to “Menu” - “Support” - “Software Update”, item “USB Software” (for D, E-series) - “Ok” (for F, H, J series - “Update now” ). The TV will poll the media for the presence of software and ask you to confirm the update (for the F or E series with the presence of KIT, the line “Update via USB” will appear). Proceed to update the firmware. Do not remove the USB storage device or turn off the TV during the installation process.

And this is no coincidence, because Samsung presents to the public a large number of a wide variety of devices in all possible price categories. This, in principle, gives the company a certain advantage - the availability of devices for all segments of the population. If a person cannot afford a smartphone for 20,000 rubles, but he needs modern functions, then budget models can provide some of them. And Samsung is doing a pretty good job in this regard: the company’s devices in the budget price segment have a large number of necessary functions in their arsenal.

The most popular models are Galaxy series. They include both premium smartphones S, S Edge, Note, and more affordable ones - A, Grand, Grand Prime and others. How do these devices differ from each other?

Firmware using third-party program Odin

First, familiarize yourself with the basic points that should never be violated. You have been warned about this several times, so that later you don’t grab your head and say to yourself: “What have I done?” Therefore, it is better to play it safe and carefully look at what needs to be done and what you are doing.

  1. You perform all operations at your own peril and risk. This is the most important rule, because after flashing the firmware using an unofficial method, you will lose Samsung's warranty.
  2. Do not unplug the power cord of your computer or laptop, that is, ensure unconditional operation of the PC.
  3. Charge your smartphone at least 80-90 percent so that it cannot run out of charge during the update.
  4. When connecting to a PC, use only the original cable.

Preliminary preparation and configuration of services

As you may have noticed, these rules are no different from the requirements for updating by official means Samsung, so it will be easy for you to comply with them. Now let's move on to the most important thing:

  1. First, download the Odin utility. It can be taken from the website (http://androidpru/odin-firmware-samsung/).
  2. Now download the firmware file for your device to your computer. If you don't know where to do this, you can use Samsung program Firmware Linker, which allows you to find and download firmware specifically for your device.
  3. Download the driver for your device to your computer. This is necessary for proper detection and configuration of the smartphone when connecting it to the PC. You can use the resource (http://androidp1.ru/drviver-for-android/).
  4. Be sure to save all important data from the device to any other storage medium, just in case. Because when flashing, partial or complete loss of information from the gadget is possible.
  5. The preparatory work is over now, and we are moving on to the main process. We put the phone into firmware mode. If you don’t know how to do this, then we try this option: turn off the device, hold down the volume down, center and lock (off) buttons at the same time. If it works correctly, you should go to a special menu, where using the volume up key you will agree to start in firmware mode. If you do not get to such a menu, then find this information specifically for your device.
  6. If everything worked out for you, you can connect the device to your computer via USB. Wait a while until the necessary drivers are installed.
  7. After this, you can launch the Odin application on your computer. In the left corner you will see that the gadget is connected, which means we are moving on.
  8. Now you need to add the firmware files in the correct order. If for single-file firmware everything is very clear (insert the firmware into the AP or PDA field by clicking on the corresponding button), then with multi-file firmware you will have to tinker a little longer.

Multi-file firmware

Let's figure out which files need to be inserted into which field:

  1. PIT is inserted into the PIT field.
  2. tar.md5 - in BL or Bootloader.
  3. File CODE_xxxxx.tar.md5 - in AP or PDA.
  4. File MODEM_xxxxx.tar.md5 - in CP or PHONE.
  5. tar.md5 - in CSC.

Continuation

  1. Please note that you do not need to check any boxes on the left if the firmware itself does not provide for this.
  2. After the correct installation of the firmware files, press the START button and wait until the program completes. After finishing, the word RESET or PASS will appear on the left. The device will now reboot and be ready to use again. You can disconnect your smartphone from your computer.

Conclusion

If after flashing or flashing your device you cannot turn it on (the so-called “perpetual reboot”), then try doing a reset. It is also known by its other name - Wipe. We hope that you can still flash or re-flash your Samsung Galaxy n9005 Note, n900, S3, N7100 and others without any incidents. Good luck, dear readers!

Updating or flashing a phone is not the easiest task for an untrained user. We will look at this issue from all sides, give advice and all the necessary information on how to use the program Kies Samsung on Android.

Why do you need to flash your phone?

Flashing a phone involves installing into the device a full range of basic programs that are necessary for its operation. This set of programs ensures interaction between the user and the device, offering him access to all its functions. Simply put, firmware is the installation of an operating system. Therefore, if you hear the expression “Reflash the device,” this is no different from the expression “Reinstall operating system».

Specific firmware versions are usually tied to specific models phones, however, there are exceptions. We can also conditionally classify any firmware version into two varieties:

  • Official firmware is the firmware provided by the device manufacturer. Its updating and development lies entirely on the shoulders of the official developers. New firmware versions often change the device interface, provide access to new functions, or simply eliminate various errors and shortcomings of previous versions.
  • Unofficial firmware is firmware made by independent developers and device users. It is also called “custom”. Sometimes, such firmware can give your device functions not provided by the developers. But you should always install it at your own peril and risk, since in case unofficial firmware no one can give you guarantees that everything will work well. In addition, you almost always have to update such firmware yourself.

Accordingly, the following main reasons for flashing the phone firmware can be identified:

  1. Improving the stability and performance of the device.
  2. The desire to gain access to applications that function only on new firmware.
  3. Troubleshooting problems and critical errors that could have been made by developers on older versions.
  4. The need to get rid of some functions built into the phone's operating system, such as Google services.

In addition, sometimes phones do not support official update to a new firmware version, even if their hardware allows it. It is in such cases that unofficial versions that are based on the official ones may come in handy. They help recreate all the features of current android firmware even on older machines.

Installing unofficial firmware is completely legal, because Android is an open source system.

Possible risks

If you want to flash your phone, it's also worth being aware of all the problems you might encounter. Let's take a look at them:

How to avoid problems with firmware:

  1. Carefully study the installation instructions for the firmware version you want to install. Make sure it is compatible with your device.
  2. Fully charge your phone. If you run out of battery while flashing the firmware, it is almost guaranteed to cause serious problems.
  3. When installing the firmware via a USB cable, do not touch or bend it. It is advisable not to touch the phone to prevent the connection from being lost during installation. And also make sure that the file transfer connector on your phone is working well.
  4. If you are not confident in your actions, it is better to entrust the firmware to someone who has experience in such matters.

How to use Kies Samsung to update Android

In order to update the firmware of your device using the Kies Samsung program, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Make sure your phone is fully charged and your computer has a stable, high-speed Internet connection.
  2. Save all the information that is important to you from your device's memory.
  3. Install the Kies Samsung program on your personal computer (You can download it for free from the “Support” section of the samsung.com website).
  4. Connect your device to computer USB- cable.
  5. The program will detect the current firmware version of your device and indicate the possibility of updating.
  6. You will be prompted to install the new firmware version. Click "Update" if you agree with this.
  7. You will be shown a large list of recommendations that you should read before starting the update. As soon as you are sure that you have completed them, check the appropriate box and click the “start update” button.

At this point, the device will not appear in the connected list. Don't worry about it.

  8. Next, a special application for installing firmware called Firmware Upgrade will launch. It will download the firmware to your personal computer.

After which your device will automatically switch to update mode. Android symbols in the form of a green robot will appear on the screen.
Do not under any circumstances turn off your device at this point, as this may damage it.

  9. When the update download is complete, your phone will restart and the program will notify you that the update was installed successfully. You can close it by pressing the “Confirm” key.

After installing the update, you can check the functionality of your device, as well as restore data that you saved in advance. The entire update installation process can take up to half an hour.

Unofficial Android firmware

Above, we figured out how to update or install firmware that is officially supported by your phone. But how can you install the firmware that you want, and not the one that the program offers? To do this, you need to understand how exactly the program finds out whether there is a firmware update for a device connected to a personal computer.

Each phone has a so-called product code (ProductCode), which in encrypted form stores data about the current phone model, as well as the country and operator cellular communication. It is based on this code, as well as the current firmware version, that the Kies Samsung program offers (or does not offer) certain firmware versions for your device.

In this case, records about the code are saved in the registry of your computer and then taken from there in order to check the emergence of new versions of the firmware of your device.
