Mobile 3G Internet works without problems. As usual, it is only available with one of the SIM cards. Which one you can choose through the settings; there is no need to swap SIM cards.

4G (LTE), alas, is missing.

Connecting to a computer via USB is possible in both MTP mode and Mass Storage mode (as usual, like two external drives).

Wi-Fi - here we have it ordinary (b/g/n) and single-band (2.4 GHz). Sensitivity is slightly below average. There are no problems with the speed of downloading or uploading.

Miracast(" Wireless display") worked. For some reason, though, only after I rebooted the device. But there is no wired option for outputting the signal to TVs (MHL, HDMI).

There is no ability to connect external USB devices (USB-OTG). There is no NFC either.

Screen

Five-inch IPS screen with a rather modest resolution of 540x960 pixels. Many, I suspect, in our era of total FullHD, such a resolution may scare off. In my opinion, it is quite tolerable and does not create any particular inconvenience.

The brightness of the screen is not bad, 370 cd/m2 with a contrast ratio of 530:1. Here minimum brightness, of course, it’s too big - 41 cd/m2 for a white screen. White point - 7300K. Not ideal, but not bad. Color gamut - 93% sRGB.

Overall the screen is completely reasonable. Good viewing angles, good behavior in the sun, obviously there is an oleophobic coating (albeit not ideal) and something like One Glass Solution. Certainly this is not best screen from those that I have seen, but it is more than good.

The sensor is also problem-free. Accuracy is good. Five simultaneous touches.

A nice bonus - it supports working with gloves. Enabled in "Settings" in the "Special Features" section (disabled by default).

Screen glass - Asahi Glass Dragontrail II. Not a Gorilla, but also something protective. I didn’t examine it with a hammer and chisel, and I didn’t drop my smartphone on stones. But he wasn’t particularly altruistic either. However, there are no visible signs of use on the screen.

Operating system and other software

Good "old" operating room Android system 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. There's not much to talk about.

There are no problems with installing large programs, because... It is possible to put them on a Micro-SD memory card. However, there is one problem. There are two separate areas of flash memory - "internal memory" and "memory card". Moreover, “internal memory” is always a certain piece of the memory that is already in the device. And in our case it is only 1 GB. The problem is that even if you put the program on the "memory card", it will still bite off some piece of the " internal memory". And sometimes it will be installed there entirely (like, for example, all Google utilities or Yandex.Browser). As a result, from the unfortunate gigabyte of internal memory very quickly there is practically nothing left. Poor me, by the end of Philips testing, to install something new , I already had to demolish something old, and I couldn’t clear enough space for Angry Birds Go.

Battery

The battery capacity is insane by today's standards - 5300 mAh. This is not just a lot, it is a lot. The test results speak for themselves. On average, 321% of the results of the Galaxy S4, which traditionally plays the role of a standard for me.

No, this, of course, is not enough for a week of normal use. But for two or three days - easily. There is no talk at all about draining the battery in a day. Well, that is. if only purely theoretically, if you really, really try...

It's funny. The official website has "official" information on battery life. They promise “up to 33 hours of talk time”, “working time on the Internet up to 16 hours”. I’m not familiar with their methodology, but, as you can see, the results coincide with mine very, very well. I'll go grab a pie from the shelf.

Full charge time for family charger(5V, 1.5A) - a little more than four hours.

The video is also not great. Yes, the camera can record both HD and FullHD, but only 15 frames per second. And the quality, to be honest, is not encouraging.

The front camera is the usual 2 MP (1600x1200). Also nothing outstanding, but good for conversations on Skype.

Philips Xenium W6610 as a GPS navigator

Well, you've reached the saddest part of my story.

Even before setting off on my trip, I managed to run my usual two laps with the W6610. As usual, the first one is with a SIM card installed. The second - without her. Tracks in front of you:

The second track is not too smooth, but reasonable. There are no questions for him. And on the first one you can see two straight segments. The smartphone was losing satellites. Twice in thirteen minutes. However, not for long.

Not long ago I started walking with smartphones and tablets along the same route and recording the resulting tracks. But there will certainly be a dozen devices tested in this way. So here it is. This is the first time that a device managed to lose satellites on this route.

I even suggested that maybe the SIM card was to blame. Without her there were no problems. But further observations showed that the SIM card had nothing to do with it.

And then the journey began. When you need GPS all the time. When it doesn't turn off at all. And based on the results of this journey, I can say the following. The device behaves very strangely. He can several hours in a row work without problems at all (but this is rather the exception than the rule). Or maybe, out of the blue, with a clear sky and an open horizon, you lose satellites and search for them for ten to fifteen minutes. Whether it has a SIM card or not is completely unimportant.

Fortunately for me and unfortunately for Philips, I had something to compare with. Our company had a lot of different GPS devices with us. And no one behaved worse.

On the third day of the journey, I already began to guess that a miracle would not happen. Nevertheless, I continued to take out the W6610 from time to time and turn on GPS on it. And sometimes I just turned on the GPS in the morning and put the device in the top pocket of my backpack for the whole day. What if he changes his mind, what if he comes to his senses? Alas. I didn’t come to my senses. I was never able to fully use the W6610 as a navigator.

I completely forgot to say. There is no GLONASS support.
