Photoshop views. Photoshop versions - description and features. CS3 Specific

The product is the market leader in commercial raster image editing tools, and the most famous product from Adobe. This program is often simply called Photoshop. Photoshop is currently available on Mac, Windows and mobile systems iOS and Android. Early versions of the editor were ported to SGI IRIX, but official support was discontinued starting with the third version of the product. For versions 8.0 and CS6 it is possible to run under Linux using Windows alternatives API - Wine.

Peculiarities

Despite the fact that the program was originally developed as an image editor for printing, it is now widely used in web design. An earlier version included special program for these purposes - Adobe ImageReady, which was excluded from the CS3 version due to the integration of its functions into Photoshop itself, as well as its inclusion in the line software products Adobe Fireworks, which became the property of Adobe after the acquisition of Macromedia.

Photoshop is closely related to other programs for media processing, animation, and other creative work. Combined with programs such as Adobe ImageReady (deprecated in CS3), Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Encore DVD, it can be used to create professional DVDs, provide non-linear editing tools and special effects such as backgrounds, textures, etc. for television, cinema and world wide web. Photoshop has also taken root in computer game development circles.

Basic Photoshop format, PSD, can be exported and imported by all software products listed above. Photoshop CS supports creating DVD menus. Together with Adobe Encore DVD, Photoshop allows you to create DVD menus or buttons. Photoshop CS3 Extended version also supports working with three-dimensional layers.

Due to the high popularity of Photoshop, support for its specific PSD format has been implemented in many graphics programs, such as Macromedia Fireworks, Corel PHOTO-PAINT, WinImages, GIMP, Corel Paint Shop Pro and others.

Photoshop supports the following color models or ways of describing the colors of an image (in the notation of the program itself - image mode):

  • In grayscale
  • Black and white
  • Duotone
  • With 256 color palette (Indexed)
  • Multichannel

Image processing is supported with color depths of 8 bits (256 gradations per channel), 16 bits (using 15 bits plus one level, that is, 32769 levels) and 32 bits (using single precision floating point numbers). It is possible to save additional elements in the file, such as Guides, channels (for example, the Alpha channel), Clipping paths, layers containing vector and text objects. The file may include color profiles(ICC), color conversion functions (transfer functions). Non-square pixels are allowed (Pixel Aspect Ratio).

The first version appeared in 1987. It was created by University of Michigan student Thomas Noll. Thomas Knoll) for the Macintosh platform. He called it Display, but renamed it ImagePro in 1988. In September 1988, Adobe Systems bought the rights to the program, leaving Thomas Noll as the developer, and in 1989 the program was renamed Photoshop. In 1990, Photoshop 1.0 appeared.

Photoshop 8.0, dating from October 2003, is called Photoshop CS, as it began to belong to Adobe Systems' new line of products - Creative Suite.

Photoshop 10.0, dated April 2007, is called Photoshop CS3. The abbreviation CS3 means that the product is integrated into the third version of the Adobe Creative Suite. In previous products - Photoshop CS and CS2, in order to distinguish it from previous versions and strengthen its belonging to the new product line, the program symbol was changed: instead of the image of an eye, which was present in versions from 3 to 7, the image was used in the style decision feathers In Photoshop CS3, the application icon and splash screen use the letters from the product name "Ps" on a blue gradient background. The list of innovations includes a new interface, increased speed, new Adobe Bridge, new filters and tools, and Device Central, which lets you preview your work in templates for popular devices such as mobile phones.

The latest versions include Adobe Camera RAW, a plugin developed by Thomas Knoll that allows you to read a range of different Raw formats digital cameras and import them directly into Photoshop.

Although Photoshop has a near-monopolization of the professional market, its high price has led to the emergence of competing software products that occupy the mid- and low-priced niche of the market, some of which, such as GIMP, are completely free. To capture this part of the market and to counter the unusually high rates of illegal use of its professional products, Adobe introduced the mid- and low-end programs Photoshop Elements and Photoshop Album, the first of which is a paid stripped-down version of Photoshop, and the second is distributed free of charge and serves for organization and basic processing photographs. The product is aimed at the hobbyist market, as its limited functionality makes Photoshop Elements unsuitable for preparing images for printing. Adobe program Photoshop Lightroom serves exclusively for “developing” “digital negatives”, simple retouching of photographs and organizing their catalog.

Advanced program features

An extended version of Adobe Photoshop Extended is intended for more professional use, namely when creating films, videos, multimedia projects, three-dimensional graphic design and web design, for work in the fields of manufacturing, medicine, architecture, and during scientific research.

Modern versions of Adobe Photoshop Extended (CS4 and later) can open and work with 3D files created by programs such as Adobe Acrobat 3D, 3ds Max, Maya and Google Earth. Photoshop supports the following 3D file formats: U3D, 3DS, OBJ, KMZ, and DAE.

It is possible to use 3D files for embedding into a 2D photo. Some operations are available for processing a 3D model, such as working with wireframes, selecting materials from texture maps, and adjusting light. You can also create inscriptions on a 3D object, rotate models, change their size and position in space. The program also includes commands for converting flat photographs into three-dimensional objects of a certain shape, such as, for example, a can, a pyramid, a cylinder, a sphere, a cone, etc.

To simulate motion in Photoshop, you can create animation frames using image layers. You can create video images based on one of many preset pixel aspect ratios. After editing, you can save your work as an animated GIF or PSD file, which you can later play in many video programs, such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Adobe After Effects. You can open or import video files and image sequences for editing and retouching, create animation footage, and export your work to a QuickTime file, GIF animation, or image sequence. Video frames can be separately edited, transformed, cloned, masks, filters can be applied to them, different ways pixel overlays, you can draw on them using various tools.

Starting from the CS version, working with scripts is available in Photoshop.

Photoshop supports DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) files - digital images and communications in medicine. For a DICOM file opened in Photoshop, you can use any Photoshop tool to correct and retouch images.

And finally, with the help Photoshop programs Extended allows you to view MATLAB images, process them in Photoshop, and combine MATLAB commands with Photoshop image processing technologies. Once a connection is established to Photoshop from MATLAB and commands are entered into command line MATLAB, these controls are immediately executed in Photoshop. Files prepared in MATLAB have the extension m, fig, rpt, mat, mdl. Communication between Photoshop and MATLAB uses the Photoshop JavaScript interface and the MATLAB library interface.

Moreover, it is not only the company’s most famous application Adobe, but also a market leader in the field of commercial image editors.

It is also worth noting that the program supports all popular image formats, which makes it easy to import/export data without the need to use any additional tools.

By the way, quite often this application Abbreviated as photoshop. The abbreviation "CS5" means that the program is integrated into the fifth version of the application package called "Adobe Creative Suite".

Many designers consider this product simply an indispensable assistant with which they can implement the most complex and original ideas. After all, thanks to the program, you can use ready-made brushes, styles and effects, which will significantly save time and enjoy the convenience of the graphics editing process.

By using Adobe Photoshop You can work not only with ordinary two-dimensional pictures, but also with 3D objects, easily process RAW files, rotate, scale, retouch images, adjust colors and levels of photographs, work with layers and layers, as well as apply various effects and much more.

Adobe Photoshop supports work with some other applications for processing multimedia materials. For example, this product is closely related to such software as: Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Encore DVD.

It is worth noting that due to its popularity in the market graphic editors Competitive products such as Macromedia Fireworks, Pixel image editor, Corel Photo-Paint, GIMP, Jasc Paintshop Pro, WinImages and many others were forced to add support for a native format called PSD.

Although Photoshop is one of the leading products in the professional market of graphic editors, its price (which as of December 2010 is about 30,000 rubles) has led to the emergence of competing programs that occupy the lower and middle price niche of the market. However, some of them, for example GIMP, are completely free. Therefore, in order to absorb this part of the market, as well as to prevent the illegal use of its product, Adobe also introduced low and middle class software - these are Photoshop Album and Photoshop Elements.

The first application is distributed free of charge; it is used for basic processing and organization of a collection of photos. The second program costs less than $100. She is stripped down Adobe version Photoshop. However, both products are aimed only at the amateur market and are simply not suitable for professional preparation of graphics for printing.

By the way, you can read about how the version differs from previous releases of this product in the article:

Program interface

The appearance of the graphic editor has become more convenient and informative compared to previous versions. This can be noticed just by looking at the main program window (of course, if you used version CS4, CS3 or some other release).

Interface of Adobe Photoshop CS5

At the top of the window Photoshop there is a main menu containing almost all the commands for setting up and implementing the image editing process, as well as a control panel, which is also intended for setting up and launching many of the program’s functionalities. This panel combines almost all elements for managing the program as conveniently as possible.

At the bottom there is an attributes panel. Its elements change depending on the selected tools with which the user works.

And under it there is a tab bar that allows you to switch between open pictures.

Below is the application work area, where the image editing process actually takes place.

To the left of it is the “Toolbar”, which contains all the basic tools for changing pictures.

To the right of it is the panel area, where all the main elements for controlling image processing are collected.

By the way, if panels bother you in order to look at the image as a whole, then you can hide all panels and palettes by pressing the "Tab" key.

Well, at the very bottom of the program window there is a status bar that displays some useful information.

Main menu of the program

Main menu of Adobe Photoshop CS5

The main menu of Photoshop has a standard appearance, which is present in a similar design not only in most graphic editors, but in general in any programs created to work on operating systems Windows family. Of course, the program menu also has its own individual characteristics, which we will now turn our attention to, but let’s take it in order:

  • First comes the familiar “File” item, which contains basic commands for opening, creating, saving, closing graphic documents, as well as functions for importing, printing, etc.
  • Next comes the “Editing” item, which contains commands designed to perform basic operations on the image, for example, such as: copy, cut, paste, fill, scale, transform, etc.. At the end this list There are commands for setting up keyboard shortcuts, as well as for changing the settings of Photoshop itself.
  • The next item is "Image". Here you can set the picture mode, for example, RGB or Grayscale, adjust levels, contrast, resize the photo and much more.
  • The next menu group, “Layers,” is very functional. The commands in this item allow you to do almost anything with layers, namely create, delete, change parameters, arrange, merge and apply various effects.
  • The commands in the “Selection” item are very useful in some cases. For example, you can invert a selection, set a color range, refine an edge, and save and load selections.
  • The next point, and probably the most important for designers, is the “Filter”. In fact, almost all the commands in this group are designed to create various effects on the image. For example, by selecting one of the filters, you can blur the picture, distort it, sharpen it, add strokes, etc.
  • Next comes the “View” item. This group of commands allows you to change the way the picture is displayed, the screen mode, as well as additional elements such as rulers and guides.
  • Also a very important point is “Window”. By default, not all windows are visible in Photoshop, because there are too many of them and if you turn on all the windows at once, it will simply be inconvenient to work on image editing. The commands of this item allow you to show/hide all windows that are in the program.
  • And finally, the final item is “Help”. The commands in this group allow you to open documentation on working with Adobe Photoshop.

Buttons and tools in the control panel

The program has a fairly user-friendly interface that allows you to display almost any graphic documents as conveniently as possible. All tools for displaying documents are located in the control panel, which is located at the top of the Photoshop window.

Launch additional program for convenient viewing of photos

At the top of the panel there is a button called "Launch Bridge" (it's highlighted in yellow). This function allows you to open a library program directly in the Photoshop window, with which you can conveniently view and sort all the photo and video files located on your computer.

Viewing auxiliary elements

In the image, the button in Adobe Photoshop CS5 for displaying auxiliary elements is highlighted in yellow.

A button called "View Auxiliary Elements" is designed to make working with graphics more convenient by setting a ruler, grid, and guides.

Changing the image scale

In the image, the drop-down list in Adobe Photoshop CS5 for resizing the image is highlighted in yellow.

Next is the “Scale” drop-down list, which allows you to set the image size required for display on the screen. When you click on it, four options appear: 25%, 50%, 100% and 200%. At the same time, in this element you can independently specify the desired scaling percentage.

You can also scale the image using hotkeys and the mouse. So, for example, to zoom in, you need to press Ctrl + spacebar and left-click, and to zoom out, Ctrl + Alt + spacebar and also click with the left mouse button. Each click will zoom in or out of images in accordance with the key combination pressed and held.

Moving an image in the program work area

In the image, the button in Adobe Photoshop CS5 for moving the image in the program work area is highlighted in yellow.

The "Hand" tool allows you to move a picture around the Photoshop workspace if it does not completely fit in its window.

Zoom tool

In the image in Adobe Photoshop CS5, the Zoom tool is highlighted in yellow.

This button allows you to zoom out a certain area of the image for more comfortable working with it. And to completely fit the image into the working area of the program, you can press the key combination Ctrl + 0.

In the image, the button for organizing documents in Adobe Photoshop CS5 is highlighted in yellow.

If you have several documents open, then when working with them it is very convenient to use the "Arrange Documents" menu, because thanks to it you can choose different options for displaying windows with open images. For example, there are commands “Arrange vertically” or “Arrange in grid”, and the “Actual pixels” function, which allows you to display documents in order according to the size of the pictures, is simply irreplaceable in some cases. Also useful is a command called “Full Screen”, which allows you to adjust the image so that it fits completely on the working area of the program.

Screen Modes

In the image, the button for changing the screen mode in Adobe Photoshop CS5 is highlighted in yellow.

There are only three of them: “Standard window”, “Full screen with main menu” and “Full screen”. If you select one of the last two modes, the space of the program's work area will be increased by hiding some or all panels, respectively. By the way, as we wrote above, you can use the Tab hotkey to switch between modes.

Working environment

In Photoshop, you can accomplish a variety of tasks using a variety of tools, but sometimes it can be difficult to switch from one set of panels and palettes to another. It was to solve this issue that the program developers created a panel called “Main working environment”, which is intended for selecting a working environment. With its help, the process of working in Photoshop is greatly simplified.

This panel has sets of tools that are designed for a specific type of work with pictures. Each of the sets includes the most necessary and frequently used parameters and panels, which actually allow you to achieve the required results, both when processing photographs and when creating animated images or 3D graphics.

Let's look at them in more detail:

  • Design workspace. Has a set of color palettes, as well as a panel with design text characters, which have all sorts of settings for the font type and its location.
  • The Paint workspace primarily contains sets of brushes and tools that are used for drawing. Also included in this environment is a color palette.
  • The Photo workspace has everything you need to edit a photo, such as the Adjustments, Actions, and History panels.
  • The "Motion" workspace is designed for convenient creation of animated pictures.
  • The 3D workspace will come in handy when working with 3D objects.

There are other working environments, but we have described only the most interesting ones. It's worth noting that you can also manage workspaces, i.e. create new ones or delete existing ones.

Conclusion

Well, let's sum it up a little. is an excellent image editing software that is one of the best of its kind. The program has powerful functionality, a lot of effects and filters, as well as hundreds of plugins that can further expand the capabilities of an already very impressive application.

Of course, the purpose of this article was not to teach you how to thoroughly use this product (since this requires writing more than a dozen articles), but only to introduce you to this software. By the way, read about that at the link provided.

And only one disadvantage of this program is its very high cost.

Well, of course, you will have to answer the question of whether it is worth buying or not. However, if you are serious about creating professional images, then you should consider this option. And in order to be sure that your decision is correct, we recommend that you download and install the program for free Adobe Photoshop to get started with a limited trial period:

You can also try a simpler and cheaper, but also less functional photo editor.

Adobe Photoshop has long become the standard software class for raster (pixel) graphics editors. Simply put, Photoshop is unparalleled in its photo editing capabilities.

In addition to photographs, the program can also work with vector images (drawings, banners, booklets), although this feature is auxiliary for it. With each new version of the Photoshop program, new tools and services appear that allow you to easily implement what you want. previous versions required considerable time.

Rich functionality programs are implemented through a toolbar (orange arrow in the picture), a set of menus (blue) and an options bar (green).

After selecting a tool, the contents of the options bar changes, giving the user many options for working with the selected tool. Together with numerous menu commands, effective correction and versatile image editing are provided.

Quick quality correction of the recalled photo can be made in automatic mode three teams (blue arrow).

For more detailed editing, use the “Correction” menu commands (orange arrow).
Below are some examples of photo editing using these commands.

The impression of early fallen snow was created using the “Replace Color” command.

Operative teeth whitening was carried out using the “Hue/Saturation” command.

The background of the tulips was transformed using the “Color Search” command.

The man was "sent to the resort" with the help of the "Channel Mixing" team.

The previous examples were for whole photographs. If you need to correct only part of it, then it must first be selected using the selection tools or the “Selection” menu.

After this, local correction, for example, eye color, becomes possible.

You can selectively change the color of only selected tulips.

Many Photoshop tools have powerful photo editing capabilities, especially the tool group marked with an orange arrow.

So, with the help of the Spot Healing Brush tool, it is quite possible to “drain the lake” in a minute, as shown below.

The Patch tool is quite capable of quickly removing one of the Stonehenge stones.

Using the Remix Patch tool, you can move the climber around the rock or add a twin to it.

As a result of the interaction of the “Text” (orange arrow) and “Brush” (blue) tools

you can get dripping text with sparkling pieces of ice.

Layers are a powerful tool for combining multiple images, editing them effectively, and adding vector drawings, text, and special effects to images. They can be thought of as a stack of sheets stacked on top of each other. The underlying sheets are visible through the transparent areas of the overlying sheets.

For high-quality “coloring” of the blouse, the possibilities of layers were used.

Combining Photos in Photoshop was also produced using layers of merged photographs.

Layer effects were used to create the frame of the photo. Using this, you can also superimpose photos on photos or glue them together, as was shown in the article linked to the link.

All versions of Photoshop, the most popular drawing program, have their own unique set of features, making it difficult for users to decide which version to use.

Let's look at the distinctive characteristics of different types of Photoshop editor and select the best one for your Windows OS build.

Determining your version of Photoshop

If Photoshop is already installed on your computer, you can determine the version of the software product yourself. This is necessary for the correct installation and use of additional elements.

Version information software needed if you want to install a crack or special plugins. Follow the instructions to find out the current version of your Photoshop:

  • To see the version of the program, first turn it on;
  • after loading the main one, open the Help item on the toolbar;
  • click on “System Information”;
  • the first line of the window that opens indicates the program version. Select and copy this text;
  • find the copied text in Google or any other search engine. The long set of numbers determines the build version of the program;
  • Based on the search engine results, we can say that our PC has Photoshop version SS.

Features of program versions

Adobe Photoshop has been the market leader in professional image editing software for many years. Over the entire period of support for the application, Adobe has released a large number of versions, each of which had its own innovations and features.

First version of Photoshop

The very first version of the program had a numeric identifier of 1.0. The application was released back in 1990. The functionality of the program resembled the well-known Paint.NET. It was actually an advanced image processing program for its time.

In the future, the developers tried to release new versions of each goal, improving individual elements for editing. The application acquired its more familiar look and broad functionality only in 2002 with the release of the 2002 build.

Photoshop 7.0 2002

In Photoshop in 2002, the “Healing Brush” first appeared, with which users could even out the tone of individual layers of an image. The developers for the first time introduced the function of creating and further saving the settings of a personal working window of the program, which the user could adapt to himself. A version has also appeared for Mac OS X.

First Photoshop CS (version 8.0)

In 2003, Adobe programmers released new version CS, which subsequently gave rise to the development of a whole group of assemblies with this identifier.

This build supports scripts and the ability to work with multiple image layers, combining them into separate groups.

Photoshop CS2

In this build, for the first time, users have the ability to eliminate red eyes in photographs. The layer control panel has undergone minor changes and the location of most of the tools has changed.

Photoshop CS3

The CS3 build was released in 2007. It significantly speeds up the process of loading the start window and, in general, working with the program has become much faster. The program was adapted for Windows XP, and over time began to work well on Windows 7. The developers configured optimized display of the program on portable devices.

Photoshop CS4

The program was released in 2008. As for improving functionality, the developers have simplified “Masks” and improved color correction of images. User interface became more intuitive. Thus, even novice users can quickly start working with the program at an advanced level.

Let's take a closer look at the features of more modern versions of Photoshop.

Photoshop CC 2014

In June 2014, Adobe released comprehensive updates for most of its software products, including Photoshop. The new version received the CC 2014 identifier.

This version of Photoshop began to launch much faster, despite the greater number of different functions and capabilities. At the same time, software began to consume more random access memory(30 – 60 MB).

Significant changes have appeared in the settings of the main window and toolbar. All program windows have become more compact, and the text font has been increased.

More features of the 2014 CC version:

  • The Advanced window is displayed constantly, regardless of the user's operating mode;
  • it became possible to instantly track the distance between selected objects in the image or between the boundaries of the picture;
  • when copying an element, a tooltip automatically appears indicating the distance from the boundaries of two objects;
  • It became possible to embed Linked Smart type objects into a document. This allows you to significantly reduce the size of the final file without losing quality;
  • Users can import individual PNG files up to 2 GB in size;
  • search by fonts was carried out;
  • instant display of the font on the selected object;
  • adding Path Blur and Spin Blur types of blur;
  • separating a focused object from a more blurry one.

Photoshop CC 2015

In June 2015, Adobe released the version of Photoshop SS 2015. Among the features of the new version of the application are the following:

  • Improved optimization. The launch of the program and the process of working with images have been significantly accelerated;
  • introduction of the new Design Space tool. With its help, you will be able to edit objects with a larger number of advanced tools, while the tool eliminates unnecessary mouse movements;
  • access to a huge database of images from Adobe Stock;
  • simplified image export;
  • Improved resources in Creative Cloud;
  • Artboards design changed;
  • the presence of additional styles of object layers;
  • ability to view user projects on the IOS platform;
  • simple printing of 3D elements.

Difference between SS and CS versions

Despite the similarity of all versions, some types of assemblies still have significant differences. Let's consider the difference between the well-known CS and CC.

A set of CS (Creative Suite) versions – more old version Photoshop. This version does not support working with the cloud and some plugins. At the same time, the program is compatible with mobile devices and has an updated toolbar for intelligent object correction.

SS (Creative Cloud) versions – unlike CS, SS supports cloud libraries for data storage. There is the possibility of “coordinating” work on the image between mobile device and PC. Significantly improved AAF optimization. There are additional codecs and support for more formats and plugins.

Selecting Photoshop for a specific version of Windows

  • for Windows XP - it is better to install versions 7.0, CS1, CS2, CS3;
  • Windows 7 – among the most suitable versions are CS3, CS4, CS5, CS6;
  • Windows 8/8.1 – install CS4, CS5, CS6, CC 2014 or CC 2015;
  • Windows 10 – versions CS6, CC 2014 or CC 2015 are perfect.

Depending on the Windows OS installed on your PC or laptop, you should select the appropriate version of Photoshop. Do not try to install the latest version of the editor on Windows XP or 7. This may lead to incorrect operation of the program and excessive load on the system's RAM.

When installing software, consider the bitness of your OS. It comes in two types - 32-bit and 64-bit. You can find out the bit depth in the PC system parameters window:

Depending on the bit depth, download and install the corresponding exe file.

How to work in FS online

Photoshop is a program that requires installation on your PC. If you do not want to waste time on installation, you can use the online version of the program. They have reduced functionality, so you cannot work with bulky projects in them.
