The TM and TM-Sidchi program: a description of personal experience. “Translator’s Memory”, or What is Translation Memory

Translation memory programs (TM programs)

automated translation program

First, let's define how translation memory programs work. Their work is based on a translation algorithm - a sequence of unambiguously and strictly defined actions on the text to find matches in a given pair of languages A1 - A2 for a given direction of translation (from one specific language to another). The most common is the following sequence of formal operations that provide analysis and synthesis in the program work system:

The CAT program segments the text to be translated, i.e. breaks it down into segments (sentences) and provides it to the translator in a convenient form that simplifies and speeds up the translation. In the program, each segment is displayed in a special frame, and in another frame, directly below the source text, you can enter the translation.

After that, each translated segment is analyzed for a match with the translation memory (TM - translation memory), and at a certain percentage of match, translation options are provided. In turn, the translator confirms the proposed option, corrects it at his own discretion, or completely translates the unique segment.

Thus, each time it finds segments in a new text that were translated earlier, the program automatically offers a translation option. The entire main part of CAT programs works using a translation memory (TM) or translation memory.

TM is a database where completed translations are stored. TM technology works on the principle of accumulation: in the process of translation into TM, the original segment (sentence) and its translation are saved. When processing a new text received for translation, the system compares each sentence with the segments stored in the database. If a segment identical or similar to the original is found, the translation of that segment is displayed along with the translation and an indication of the percentage match. Words and phrases that differ from the saved text are highlighted. Thus, the translator only has to translate new segments and edit partially matching ones. Every change or new translation is saved in the TM. As a result, there is no need to translate the same sentence twice.

Each TM database record represents a unit (sentence or paragraph) parallel texts(usually in two languages). Such a database stores previous translations for the purpose of their possible reuse and problem solving quick search by content. Translation memory does not translate anything on its own, it is just an auxiliary tool in translation.

As a rule, a translation memory record consists of two segments: in the source (source) and target (target) languages. If an identical (or similar) segment in the source language occurs in the text, the segment in the target language will be found in the translation memory and offered to the translator as the basis for a new translation. Automatically found text can be used as is, edited or completely rejected. Most programs use a fuzzy matching algorithm, which significantly improves their functionality, since in this case it is possible to find sentences that are only vaguely reminiscent of the searched phrases, but, nevertheless, suitable for subsequent editing. TM search tools can work with entire segments or with individual words or phrases, allowing the translator to perform terminological searches. The system also includes separate program to work with a glossary containing terms approved for use in the project. Some systems work with machine translation programs. The main operating interface is either built directly into the existing one word processor, such as Word, or is a separate editor. The system necessarily includes filters for importing and exporting files of various formats. In addition, many, if not all, systems have a facility for adding segments from the translator's old translated files to the translation memory.

Based on the descriptions above, it is clear that the decision to choose a translation option lies entirely with the translator - this is the main difference between CAT tools and machine translation, where the final decision is made by the machine.

Currently, there are a huge number of programs whose work is based on translation memory. The most famous programs are Trados, Deja Vu, Wordfast, MemoQ, OmegaT, ABBYY Aligner.

Here he is, the miracle translator of the future!
But there are still many years before its creation.

If you, the reader, have ever read science fiction literature or watched a science fiction film, then you may have seen such a small box on the belt or on the shoulder, or even on the forehead of an astronaut who is a contact person with extraterrestrial civilizations. Or a disk. Or even something, say, a specialized robot. Using which, the hero performs a small miracle: he listens to the interlocutor and understands him perfectly, for the interlocutor speaks his native, earthly language; Moreover, the hero can also speak, and the interlocutor also understands him, for the magical apparatus transforms the hero’s words into this foreign language. This is it, the embodiment advanced technologies of the future - a translator machine! Which instantly adapts to the local dialect and learns a new language in 2-3 phrases.

Have you tried the auto translator?
Give it to the enemy.

Now let's go back to our modern world and let’s think, do we already have prototypes of such magic boxes today? Of course I have. For example, there is an automatic Google translator. Nothing at all, turned on the browser, launched it Google extension Translate, and good luck, all web pages are automatically translated into your native language. Or you can go to online translation sites or even install special program, and that's it, you can translate. There is, however, a small problem: very soon all these pseudo-translations begin to drive you crazy. Simple and clear text is translated in the most incredible way, the meaning of your document is replaced with something unimaginable, photos on web pages do not correspond to their captions, and other similar absurdities. Finally, there is a feeling of overwhelming stupidity of the creators of such a software product and a desire to delete it and never use it again.

But what was it anyway? You got acquainted with one or two or three examples of so-called technology machine translation, in other words, they encountered the MT program. It is based on the idea that if you make a database in the form of a huge number of bilingual word pairs, if you add basic grammar rules to this database, you can create an automatic (and therefore inexpensive) translator. And you saw the embodiment of this idea. And not at all mediocre. There are quite reputable companies on the market, with a large turnover, even with branches in the country and abroad, selling similar programs. It’s not a mediocre embodiment, no, the idea itself is stupid that human translators are walking encyclopedias who just conjugate verbs correctly. It still seems that translators are doing something else that machines cannot do yet.

I must say that you and I were not the only ones who fell into this trap. There are rumors that people from Microsoft Corporation, when their company entered international markets, also tried to use machine translation, because they could not understand why they should pay “mad money” to human translators. This happened in the early 90s and ended very quickly. Microsoft is a corporation that knows how to count money, but its management is not stupid at all.

The English word "translate" has at least 9 meanings. It is up to the individual to decide which one to use.

What is the problem with machine translation? In fact, there are many problems. One of them is that database units are words. The meaning of which in living speech only seems constant, in fact the meaning of words is almost constantly, although imperceptibly changing. Bad things suddenly become good, some words disappear from everyday use, others change their meaning, etc. In addition, humanity (and even individual people) is divided into various social groups - professional, by interests, by level of consumption, etc. and so on. And each of these groups gradually develops its own vocabulary of communication. In this case, terms from common language are often used, their meaning simply changes. You can live your whole life within the framework of your group and not realize that from the point of view of the great and powerful language of your people, your group (and its slang) is practically unknown to anyone. Therefore, thick, classic, paper dictionaries usually offer a considerable number of meanings for the same word. Which must be substituted depending on the situation in the translation. And only a human translator can understand exactly what meaning should be substituted. A machine translator, alas, is not yet capable of such intellectual actions (and, perhaps, will not be able to do this for a very long time).

Here is a classic example of a machine translation blunder:

(English) Spirit is strong but flesh is weak.

(rus.) The spirit is strong, but the flesh is weak.

(Russian, machine translation): The alcohol is strong, but the meat is rotten.

(Russian, machine translation, option 2, Google): The smell is strong, although impotent.

However, let's return to our conversation and summarize the preliminary results. So, not only you and me, but also very serious businesses, when they needed it, showed a persistent desire to reduce the cost, speed up and, thus, democratize the translation process. However, the first attempt ended in failure.

You and I, having been burned, only remembered with gratitude our school or college teachers foreign language and decided to henceforth rely either on their knowledge or turn to specialists (human translators).

But serious business (meaning, for example, the same Microsoft), having returned to human translators their right to translate, has taken care to intensify the translation process as much as possible and improve its quality by providing translators with specialized software products. Because, unlike us, serious businesses still need successful international trade, and to do this they need high-quality translation at a reasonable price. In particular, the same Microsoft (as well as Adobe, Cisco, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Nokia, Novell, Xerox) participated in the creation of the LISA association (Localization Industry Standards Association), and also bought a 20% stake in the then young company Trados GmbH. In other words, serious business initiated the era of TM programs in the translation market, investing their own funds in it.

Translation memory is a special database for translators. Initially it is empty and is filled during operation.

But what are TM programs? During the first attempts to localize software products into different languages, it turned out that when translating voluminous materials, quite large pieces of text (for example, sentences and even paragraphs) can be repeated. At the same time, different translators, of course, translated them at least a little, but in different ways, in their own way. In addition, it turned out that the translators were thus wasting their time and the money of their customers unwisely. Naturally, the idea arose to either create or financially support a software product that would “catch” these repeated pieces during the translation process and, so that the translator would not do double work, would insert the already made translation into all places where it occurs repeatedly.

This is how the concept was formed translation memory, literally, translation memory: there is a certain database that is initially empty, but it is filled with the material that a particular translator translates; this database is activated every time an already translated fragment is encountered in the text, and automatically inserts a ready-made translation into the appropriate places.

As time has shown, this idea was accepted with a bang not only by serious businesses, large corporations, but also the translators themselves. Which, as it turned out, themselves suffered from the fact that they needed to translate repeated pieces, but they could not remember how they translated the last time, and having finally made the translation that seemed to them the best, they could not replace the previous versions translation, and besides, soon this “best translation” was simply lost among other translation instructions.

Thus, in a fairly short period of time, a whole market of TM programs has emerged, where the famous Trados is not at all an undisputed trendsetter; such well-known programs as Deja Vu, Wordfast, Star Transit, OmegaT and others are following on its heels. Today it is difficult to even say who has more supporters, say, Deja Vu or Trados lovers, but it should be recognized that the generally accepted standard for transferring translation materials to the customer is still Trados and its formats.

So, to summarize, let's say: modern market software systems for translation is divided into two groups.

The first is machine translation programs or MT programs ( machine translation ). From the point of view of professional translation and serious business, this is a side line, an unsuccessful product, which, however, is still in demand on the mass market. Modern MT programs are equipped with special tools that allow a professional to really try to adapt them to the needs of a specific group, but guarantee the true authenticity of the translation such software products still they can’t. main feature MT programs are initially filled databases (giant dictionaries of language pairs).

The second group is TM programs ( translation memory ). From the point of view of an ordinary curious user, this is an almost useless toolkit. There are no pre-nested dictionaries; databases are created directly during the translation process. TM programs are in high demand by professional translators, because they are written for them and are very useful for them - they can speed up the translation process and also improve its quality. In addition, TM programs are viewed very favorably by representatives of transnational corporations, who with their help intend to reduce translation costs.

"The TM-Sidhi program is the stabilization of an aspect of the infinite organizing power of pure consciousness."

Maharishi

TM-Sidhi Program training course

The TM-Sidhi program is an in-depth program of Maharishi Vedic Science and Technology. The TM-Sidhi program is a natural continuation of the Transcendental Meditation Technique and Advanced Techniques; it can be learned no earlier than two months after learning all the Advanced Techniques.

If the Transcendental Meditation Technique opens the mind to the experience of transcendental consciousness (“waking in peace”), then the TM-Sidhi Program develops the ability to think and act from this level of consciousness. Thanks to the TM-Sidhi Program, a person masters the art of action - gains the ability to carry out anything naturally and effortlessly with the help of intention alone. Therefore, the TM-Sidhi Program is also called the “technique for making wishes come true.”

The TM-Sidhi program further develops mental and creative abilities, intuition, increases learning ability and flexibility of the nervous system. According to scientific research, the practice of TM-Sidhi leads to an even higher degree of brain coherence and increased integration between the mind and body.

So called "yogic flights"- this is the culmination of the TM-Sidhi Program, the opening of the Field of all Possibilities to every person.

Let's see what Maharishi Mahesh Yogi himself says about human potential:

“The Vedic system of acquiring anything is to stimulate the Complete Natural Law to fulfill any desire. According to the Vedic system of mind cultivation, the Complete Natural Law is subject to our command. To cultivate the mind, lead your consciousness to the source of thought. The memory of everything awakens in your consciousness from this region of unmanifest emptiness. The infinite creative intelligence supports your desires, actions and behavior.

Transcendental Meditation trains the mind to consciously launch thought from the self-referred Unified Field, the field of Total Natural Law within the person himself. From there we make the wish come true. This is a different philosophy.

To train a man to do something and give him so much money is the philosophy of slavery. Then you give him more money and he will do this. This is the science of slavery, the philosophy of dependence. “Your humble servant,” how wonderful, “I, sir, am your humble servant.” You remain a man's servant for a few thousand coins every month, and then you can buy yourself some fruit and so on.

You can train your mind so that the Total Natural Law that governs the Universe becomes an assistant in the fulfillment of your desires. Proof of this is “yogic flights”. You invite gravity, and gravity says, “Yes, sir, I am here for you.” You appeal to the force of gravity - and immediately the force of gravity fulfills your request. If you want the body to rise into the air, the body immediately rises up.

This is proof. We're not talking about fantasies. Vedic education is a practical field of education. We have seen that modern education increases ignorance more than knowledge. Vedic education increases knowledge until you have access to the full knowledge of creativity - the infinite potential of Natural Law. This is something completely different, but this is exactly what we offer».

“The various siddhis, which in times of ignorance were called superhuman abilities, are not superhuman at all. All within the normal range of human abilities. The range of each person's own nature is the entire cosmic life, because it has the same nature... Until now, the philosophy of wish fulfillment has been one of struggle... Now we must awaken humanity to a new philosophy of life... Success lies in interaction with nature , and nature is also man’s own nature. The more you are able to control yourself, the more you are able to control the world.”

TM-Sidhi Program refresher course

The TM-Sidhi Program Refresher Course is an opportunity to re-listen to Maharishi's introductory lectures from the TM-Sidhi Course and refresh his personal instructions on how to perform this technique. During the course, TM-Sidhi Teachers also conduct a check on the correct execution of the TM-Sidhi technique and individual consultations with each of the participants.

Feedback from course participants

“The Sidhi refresher course is very important for me. I learned how to properly practice the Patanjali sutras. On the first day of the course, I gained invaluable experience testing the practice of the TM-Sidhi program. Maharishi personally tested the correctness of sutra practice. It was an incredibly deep and important experience. Thanks to TM-Sidhi Administrators Ajith Kumar and Nisha Kumari" (Irina Roginskaya).

“As a result of the course of refreshing TM-Sidhi, all the sutras were restored, they were put in order, and the practice was also restored. This greatly helps the process of meditation and the implementation of the TM-Sidhi program in completeness and obtaining bliss and happiness.” (Marina Beschasnova).

“The course helped a lot in understanding the TM-Sidhi technique and understanding its intellectual aspect, remembering the sutras and comprehending them.
Very informative, practically useful for the quality implementation of the TM-Sidhi program, and therefore the development of consciousness.” (Alexander Viktorovich Likhogrud).

“The course is very informative and productive. There was calm inside, peace from the programs. Regularity and innocence. Thanks to the Teachers for the invaluable knowledge they bring to the world. Thank you Maharishi for these waves of bliss" ( Irina Bukharina).

“The sutras began to shoot like bullets from a gun, and this in itself was a great happiness. Sutra practice has been updated. Even meditation has changed, for the better, of course.” (Irina Kraineva, TM Teacher).

Practice support program of the TM-Sidhi Program

The practice support program of the TM-Sidhi Program is a club class during which participants who have completed the TM-Sidhi Program training course do the TM-Sidhi Program together.

Once, when asked to give him some other technique, Maharishi replied:
"You have another super technique - being together, working together and doing a program together."

Maharishi has repeatedly emphasized the importance of collective meditation both for personal evolution, from the point of view of the fastest possible progress towards realizing the full potential of Consciousness, and for achieving Indestructibility and the prosperity of all peoples.

If you are interested in any program, you can check the necessary information at your regional Transcendental Meditation Training Center.

If you have installed on your computer antivirus program Can scan all files on your computer, as well as each file individually. You can scan any file by right-clicking on the file and selecting the appropriate option to scan the file for viruses.

For example, in this figure it is highlighted file my-file.tm, then you need to right-click on this file and select the option in the file menu "scan with AVG". When you select this option, AVG Antivirus will open and perform a scan this file for the presence of viruses.

Sometimes an error may occur as a result incorrect installation software , which may be due to a problem encountered during the installation process. This may interfere with your operating system link your TM file to the correct application software , influencing the so-called "file extension associations".

Sometimes simple reinstallation of EOSAT Landsat Thematic Mapper Bitmap Data can solve your problem by properly linking TM with EOSAT Landsat Thematic Mapper Bitmap Data. In other cases, problems with file associations may result from bad software programming developer and you may need to contact the developer for further assistance.

Advice: Try updating EOSAT Landsat Thematic Mapper Bitmap Data to latest version to make sure you have the latest patches and updates installed.

This may seem too obvious, but often The TM file itself may be causing the problem. If you received the file via an attachment Email or downloaded it from a website and the download process was interrupted (for example, a power outage or other reason), the file may become damaged. If possible, try to get new copy TM file and try to open it again.

Carefully: A damaged file may cause collateral damage to a previous or existing malware on your PC, so it is very important to keep an updated antivirus running on your computer at all times.

If your TM file related to the hardware on your computer to open the file you may need update device drivers associated with this equipment.

This problem usually associated with media file types, which depend on successfully opening the hardware inside the computer, e.g. sound card or video cards. For example, if you are trying to open an audio file but cannot open it, you may need to update sound card drivers.

Advice: If when you try to open a TM file you receive .SYS file error message, the problem could probably be associated with damaged or outdated drivers devices that need to be updated. This process can be made easier by using driver update software such as DriverDoc.

If the steps do not solve the problem and you are still having problems opening TM files, this may be due to lack of available system resources. Some versions of TM files may require a significant amount of resources (e.g. memory/RAM, processing power) to properly open on your computer. This problem occurs quite often if you are using a fairly old computer. Hardware and at the same time a much newer operating system.

This problem can occur when the computer has difficulty completing a task because operating system(and other services running in background) can consume too many resources to open the TM file. Try closing all applications on your PC before opening the HP Internet Advisor Capture File. Freeing up all available resources on your computer will provide the best conditions for attempting to open the TM file.

If you completed all the steps described above and your TM file still won't open, you may need to run equipment update. In most cases, even when using older versions of hardware, the processing power can still be more than sufficient for most user applications (unless you're doing a lot of CPU-intensive work, such as 3D rendering, financial/scientific modeling, or intensive multimedia work) . Thus, it is likely that your computer does not have enough memory(more commonly called "RAM", or RAM) to perform the file open task.
