Wired data transmission.

The classic way to transmit images from an IP video camera is via UPT cable of the fifth category (twisted pair). However, it has one significant drawback: the signal transmission range does not exceed 100 m. For longer distances, additional switches should be used.

There are hybrid devices that can work with both twisted pair and coaxial wire. They are capable of transmitting a signal at a speed of 100 Mbit/s. at a distance from 600 m to 1.5 km. For example, active amplifiers of the CooperLin series from the manufacturer ComNet.

POWER CONNECTION FOR IP CAMERAS

To connect power to IP CCTV cameras, two methods can be used:

1. Laying a separate power supply line from external source nutrition.

Depending on where the CCTV camera is located, indoors or outdoors, it may consume different amounts of electricity. To provide street cameras, a cable with the parameters of a standard household electrical network 220V 50 Hz is often used.

To do this, it is necessary that both the camera and the router support PoE technology. The only drawback of this technology is the limitation of the energy transmission range to 100 m. To solve this problem, several additional devices can be used:

PoE repeaters- passive devices that extend the Ethernet network segment by transmitting data and power according to the IEEE 802.3af PoE standard beyond the limited 100 m. Transmission can be carried out via UTP CAT5e/6 Ethernet cable. Additional gain range 100 m.

CONNECTING AN IP CAMERA VIA A ROUTER

When connecting one or more IP cameras to the router, you must sequentially perform the following steps:

1. The camera is connected to the computer.

2. Log in to the internal WEB interface of the IP camera. This can be done by entering the device's IP address in the address bar of any browser. The camera address can be indicated either on the packaging or in the device passport.

First you need to configure the PC subnet in accordance with the camera’s IP address by performing the following steps:

  • Go to "Network Center" > "Connect via local network" > tab "Properties" > line "TCP/IP v4 protocol".
  • Enter the static IP address of the PC so that the first two digits match the IP address of the camera.
  • Launch any browser and enter the camera address in the address field.
  • We change the IP addresses of all cameras that will be present in the video surveillance system. We take the communicator address as an example, changing the last digit and writing it in the IP line of the camera.
  • Save the settings, disconnect the camera from the PC and connect the device to the LAN port of the router.

3. Set up the communicator.

Different manufacturers make different settings menus, so you need to study them and find the "Port Forwarding" menu item. In the WAN menu item in the “Virtual server" tab in the list of virtual servers, enter the names and unique static IP addresses of the cameras.

If the communicator has a static IP address, then you can connect to the first video camera by typing http://(IP address): (port number) in the address bar. But most often the provider provides the user with a dynamic address. Therefore, you need to register with the DDNS server. We register as many unique names as there are IP cameras.

You also need to do port forwarding on the router. This is done as follows. We enter the WEB interface of the switch, find the tab “ Additional settings» WAN submenu. Go to the DDNS tab. Set the switch to “Enable DDNS Client”. And we indicate the address of the server from which we will receive services (where we registered). This could be a server from the router manufacturer or a third-party free resource.

We save the changed parameters. By going to the address registered in the DDNS service, we get access to the image of the camera that has been assigned this unique name (it is assigned in the “Virtual Server” tab).

The advantage of this connection method is the ability to remotely view video information from any device with Internet access, even without specialized software. The number of connected devices is limited not only by the number of ports, but also throughput the router itself and/or the channel width provided by the provider.

This limitation can be circumvented by artificially reducing the maximum resolution of the cameras and the number of frames per second to a level where the total information flow from all devices does not amount to approximately 80% of the switch's throughput.

CONNECTING THE IP CAMERA TO A COMPUTER

By connecting an IP video camera to a PC directly via a network card and entering its default IP address in the browser address bar, we will not receive an image or access to WEB interface. The fact is that both devices are in different address ranges.

It is necessary to first (temporarily) change the IP address of the computer in order to get into the internal program of the video camera (How to do this is described above).

Find an IP video camera using a regular browser or special program. For example, the Hikvision company has a SADP program, which is downloaded from the company’s official website. It is more convenient to work with the program if there are several IP video cameras from the same manufacturer on the network.

Cameras can also be connected via a switch. In this case, the maximum number of IP video cameras is limited only by the bandwidth of the cable going from the switch to the PC. Connecting one video camera

Obviously, the easiest way to create video surveillance via the Internet involves connecting one recording device. The procedure is simple.

Networking with a router

To create a system with multiple cameras, you will need to use a router: it creates its own subnet with access to all devices. The setup principle is similar to that described above. By analogy, you should go into the router settings and assign each camera its own port. Most often this can be done in the Routing menu. This item allows you to transfer external requests to different IP addresses of the system, that is, in the case of video surveillance to cameras.

So, the principle of operation will be as follows. Each device is allocated its own external port and its own IP address, which is already assigned by the manufacturer. For example, the external port of the first video camera has a value of 8080, and a specific IP is assigned to it. The second is port 8081 and its own IP. And so on for every camera on the network.

After setting up the router, you need to configure each camera. The setup is described above, but there is a slight difference: the IP address is not assigned to a common one (through which the user can connect to the entire system), but for each camera its own. After setup, you should connect each IP video camera to the router. You can see the recording by requesting “static IP address: external port of a specific camera” in your browser. Connecting the system with a DVR is completely similar. There are no differences in settings here.

Important! Many users correct setting systems cannot view video remotely. The problem is that they often try to connect to cameras from the same network in which the entire video surveillance system is registered. That is, a request is made from one IP address to connect to it. Obviously, this is not logical, and the device will not be able to connect to itself. You can only watch videos from other IP addresses.

For example, to connect the system to a tablet, you need to turn off Wi-Fi on it and turn on mobile network. The second option is that the tablet needs to be connected to another network that is not related to the organization of video surveillance.

Connecting the Wi-Fi camera

Setting up an IP camera

  1. After saving the settings, you can disconnect the camera from the computer. We connect it to the LAN port of the router. Go to the local network connection settings (in the case of a wired connection between the router and PC). There we remove the previous settings (see point 2) and set automatic receipt of IP and DNS.

Before you directly install video surveillance in your home, you need to draw on paper the locations of video points, cable laying locations, etc.

220V power connection in the low current cabinet

The low-current switchboard, where the DVR, power supply, etc. are located, may be located in a different room from the general 220V switchboard, sometimes even in the garage or basement.
Therefore, the first thing you need to do is supply electricity there.

Ditch the walls and lay the VVGnG-Ls 3*1.5mm2 cable from the 220V switchboard to the low-current cabinet. You power it from a separate modular machine with rated current 10A.

In a low-current panel, connect the power cable to the terminals of another circuit breaker. It will be an introductory one for this cabinet. And directly from it you connect modular sockets and a surge arrester.

The arrester is connected according to the diagram below. The white and brown wire is the phase, the blue wire is the neutral wire, and the yellow-green wire is the ground wire.

Connecting sockets:

In the same cabinet there are:

  • power unit
  • DVR + 1TB disk
  • UPS

The hard drive is mounted in the recorder itself. To do this, unscrew the screws and disassemble it. There should be a space inside for the hard drive.

Connect the connectors, and then screw the drive into place.

Please note that often the DVR case is also a cooling radiator for the disk.

Next, you power the UPS from the sockets through a regular plug. Most power supplies come without wires with a plug included, so here you will have to do it yourself. Use PVS wires and a regular Euro plug.

Mount a plug on one end of the wire, and strip the other and connect it to the unit at the 220V power terminals, designated L and N.

There is no particular difference in phasing or polarity where to connect zero and phase. Next, connect power to the video cameras.

If there are not enough 12V output terminals on the unit, it is best to use terminal blocks. Set them according to the number of cameras and label the pins as “+V” and “-V”.

Then, using PuGV wires, connect the 12V +V and -V output terminals from the power supply, with the corresponding connectors on the first terminal block.

It is better to use red wires for the positive wire, and black wires for the negative wire. The remaining terminals are powered by jumpers.

Installation and connection of cable KVK-P

Now you need to lay the KVK-P cable to each video camera, or rather to the place where you planned to place them. You can lay it indoors either in a plastic channel or simply on top of the walls.

On the street, if desired, it can be protected with corrugation, but not necessarily.

To protect the connection points between the cable from the recorder and the cable from the camera from snow and rain, mount a junction box on the wall and route the wires into it.

Next, remove the top layer of insulation from the cable, approximately 8-9 cm, and strip the two power cores. Press them with NShV tips.

Insert these wires into the male power connector. There are two connectors "+" and "-". As we already agreed before, the red wire will be the positive contact, the black wire will be the negative one.

After this, remove the insulation from the coaxial cable.

Carefully move the outer copper braid back so that not a single hair has accidental contact with the core in the center. Otherwise, the quality of the picture will be poor, or there will be no picture at all.


Expose the central core by 3-4mm and mount the BNC-F connector.

Insulate everything from above with a protective cap.

Connect the connectors together and close the lid tightly.

To prevent moisture from getting inside, it is necessary to use a box with sealed cable entries on the sides.

All other video cameras on the walls of your house are connected in the same way. To each of them you will have to pull a separate KVK-P cable.

Connecting wires on the DVR

Now all the video surveillance cables need to be disconnected in the low-current cabinet. First, connect the DVR itself via an uninterruptible power supply.

In this case, even after turning off and turning on the power of individual points, their addresses will not change.

In a router with static addressing and precisely registered IP of each camera, you don’t need to do anything.

You can immediately go to settings that allow you to conveniently access the video stream of each point.

To do this, you need to find a port forwarding block. This section of settings is found in every modern router.

Here it is written:

  • port number;
  • IP address of the camera to which it will be linked;
  • if necessary, the port number through which the video stream is broadcast.

Most modern cameras do not require access to a clearly marked port. However, if the router does not allow you to omit it, such data is always provided in the documentation for the video surveillance device.

After setting up port forwarding, you can access any camera by typing “http://router IP: number of the port assigned to the device” in your browser.
